General Definition of Work: |
To develop and implement a comprehensive Building Trades instructional program that equips students with foundational and advanced skills in construction trades while preparing them for postsecondary education, industry employment, and workforce certifications.

Essential Functions: |
· Plan, develop, and deliver instruction in Building Trades aligned with Virginia CTE Building Trades competencies and state standards. · Provide hands-on instruction in areas such as carpentry, masonry, electrical, plumbing, construction safety, and related trades. · Prepare students for NCCER (National Center for Construction Education and Research) certifications and other applicable industry-recognized credentials. · Guide student learning and provide differentiated instruction to meet varying skill levels and learning needs. · Maintain a safe, organized, and industry-standard construction lab environment, ensuring compliance with OSHA and school division safety requirements. · Teach and reinforce proper use of tools, equipment, materials, and construction safety practices. · Maintain classroom and lab conditions that promote learning, professionalism, teamwork, and work ethic. · Evaluate student performance, skill mastery, and competency attainment; maintain accurate records; and communicate student progress to parents/guardians. · Integrate employability skills, leadership development, and career exploration into daily instruction. · Maintain, inventory, and ensure proper care of construction tools, equipment, and instructional materials. · Stay current with advancements in construction methods, building codes, and instructional best practices through ongoing professional development. · Participate in curriculum development, program evaluation, and continuous improvement of the Building Trades program. · Collaborate with school administrators, CTE staff, and support personnel to promote student success. · Serve as a positive ambassador of Amherst County Public Schools and the Building Trades program within the school and community. · Build and maintain relationships with business and industry partners to support instructional relevance and work-based learning opportunities. · Comply with all policies and regulations of Amherst County Public Schools, the Virginia Department of Education, and applicable safety standards. · Report student injuries, hazardous conditions, suspected child abuse, and other concerns as required by school division policy. · Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or designee. |

Education and Job Experience: |
· Compensation based on education and experience in accordance with the Amherst County Public Schools Teachers’ Salary Scale. · Prior industry experience in construction or related trades preferred. |
|
License/Endorsements: |
· Valid Virginia teaching license with appropriate CTE endorsement or eligibility for Virginia CTE licensure through industry experience. · NCCER certification required (or ability to obtain within a specified timeframe). · Demonstrated understanding of Virginia CTE Building Trades competencies and instructional requirements. |
