Description
The Amherst College Department of Art and the History of Art seeks an artist to teach courses in painting, conceived as a practice informed by traditional methods that is in dialogue with contemporary and experimental approaches. We seek candidates who can teach painting at all levels, are engaged in contemporary art discourse, and interested in forging connections among painting, critical practices, and research methods. This is a two-year visiting position at the rank of visiting assistant professor, commencing on July 1, 2026. Responsibilities include teaching two courses per semester, advising majors and thesis work, and additional service to the life of the department.
The successful candidate must hold an MFA or equivalent degree by the start of the appointment. An application letter (including brief descriptions of four possible courses), C.V., one sample syllabus, a creative portfolio of fifteen images and/or a link to an online portfolio, an artist statement, and names of three references must be submitted electronically to https://apply.interfolio.com/180176. The expected salary range for this job opportunity is $70,000 to $100,000. The salary offered will vary based on a number of factors, including but not limited to relevant education, training, and experience, tenure status, and other nondiscriminatory business considerations.
