Amesbury Public Schools is looking for a dedicated HVAC Technician to ensure our learning environments remain safe, comfortable, and efficient for students and staff. You will be the go-to expert for maintaining the complex systems that keep our schools running smoothly year-round which may require on-call responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
Your primary mission is to keep the district's climate controlled and its equipment in peak condition:
- System Maintenance: Perform routine preventive maintenance on HVAC/R equipment, including filter changes, belt replacements, and coil cleaning.
- Troubleshooting & Repair: Diagnose malfunctions in complex electrical and mechanical systems. You will repair or replace compressors, motors, pumps, valves, and thermostats.
- Controls Management: Monitor and adjust Building Automation Systems (BAS) to optimize energy efficiency while maintaining occupant comfort.
- Emergency Response: Respond quickly to urgent calls regarding extreme temperature fluctuations or system failures that impact the school day.
- Safety & Compliance: Ensure all work meets local building codes and handle refrigerants strictly according to EPA regulations.
- Documentation: Maintain digital logs of all repairs, refrigerant usage, and equipment history.
Qualifications & Skills
We are looking for a technician who blends deep technical expertise with the ability to navigate a school environment:
- Experience: A minimum of 3-5 years of journey-level experience in commercial HVAC maintenance. Prior experience in a school or municipal setting is a significant plus.
- Licensing: Must possess a valid EPA Universal 608 Certification. A state Journeyman License is preferred.
- Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of hydronic systems (boilers/chillers), forced air, and digital control logic.
- Communication: Ability to explain technical issues clearly to non-technical staff—such as explaining to a principal why a classroom is experiencing a temperature spike.
- Clearance: Must pass a mandatory criminal background check and fingerprinting, as required for all Amesbury Public School personnel.
Physical Requirements
This is a physically active role that requires agility and strength:
- Lifting: Ability to lift and carry up to 50lbs regularly.
- Maneuverability: Comfort working in tight spaces like crawl spaces or crowded mechanical rooms.
- Heights: Ability to work comfortably at heights on ladders, scaffolding, and rooftops.
Pay: $65,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
