What are the responsibilities and job description for the Community Food Production Leadership Intern (AHS Students Only) position at Ames Community School District?
The Community Food Production Leadership Internship (CFPLI) is a selective summer internship program for upcoming Ames High School Juniors and Seniors, focused on sustainable food production, community service, work-based learning, and youth leadership. Students selected for the program will help manage the Ames High School Garden and the Indoor Farm at the Ames High Greenhouse to grow fresh produce for donation to local food pantries. Interns will also mentor and guide younger students participating in garden and greenhouse activities.
Growing food on a large scale during the summer months is hard work - it requires consistency in the face of brutal weather conditions and constant problem solving. Working early mornings is preferred to beat the heat. If you're up for the challenge in order to help meet the needs of those families who don't have enough to eat, then the Community Food Production Leadership Internship is for you!
In Order To Maximize Leadership And Skill Development Over a Period Of Time Extending Beyond The Internship, Selection Priority Will Be Given To Applicants In The Following Order
Compensation: $13.00/hour

- Students currently taking the Food, Ecosystems, and Community: A Greenhouse Approach (FEACAGA) course, and who will be taking FEACAGA next school year.
- Students who will be taking FEACAGA next school year.
- All other Ames High Students with an interest in growing food
Compensation: $13.00/hour
