Job Title: Database Architect

Position Type: Full-Time

Location: Hybrid (2 days onsite)

Days Remote: 3 days remote

Position Summary

The Database Architect is responsible for defining and governing the enterprise data architecture for a large-scale federal platform hosted on AWS. This role designs the platform's data models, storage architecture, and data flow strategies to support high-volume filing, dissemination, analytics, and AI-enabled capabilities. Working closely with product, cloud, and engineering teams, the Database Architect ensures the platform delivers high performance, data integrity, security, scalability, and regulatory auditability while establishing enterprise standards for data governance and quality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and maintain the target-state enterprise data architecture and logical and physical data models for the platform.
  • Design storage, partitioning, indexing, and data access strategies using AWS data services, including Amazon Aurora, DynamoDB, Amazon S3, and Amazon Redshift.
  • Establish enterprise standards for data governance, data lineage, data quality, and data lifecycle management.
  • Architect scalable data pipelines, system integrations, and data dissemination patterns supporting platform operations.
  • Ensure data security, encryption, privacy, integrity, and regulatory auditability across the platform.
  • Partner with Product Architects, AWS Architects, and engineering teams to address cross-functional data architecture requirements.
  • Enable analytics, reporting, and AI/ML initiatives through well-designed enterprise data architecture.
  • Review database designs, mentor database developers, and promote data architecture best practices across the program.

Minimum Experience

  • 10 years of data engineering and database architecture experience.
  • Extensive experience designing enterprise data models for large-scale systems.
  • Experience implementing AWS data services in high-volume production environments.
  • Strong understanding of enterprise data governance, security, and regulatory compliance.

Degrees and Certifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline (or equivalent professional experience).

Preferred

  • AWS Data Analytics or related AWS certification.
