Job Summary

Reporting to the Medicaid health plan Market President with accountability to Corporate Communications and Marketing, the Director of Communications and Marketing is responsible for development and execution of the line of business marketing and communications plans. Working closely with Corporate Communications Shared Services, internal partners and health plan leadership, the Director of Communications and Marketing will lead communications efforts to strengthen brand messaging and communications for the health plan, favorably positioning the organization among key stakeholders in the state.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Plans, organizes and manages the daily operations of local communications and marketing department functions.
  • Provides strategic communications and marketing counsel to health plan leadership.
  • Provides team leadership to departmental staff.
  • Serves as liaison between plan and Corporate Communications shared services.
  • Develops and executes local marketing and communications strategy in collaboration with Corporate Communications, Corporate Marketing and other relevant corporate shared services business partners.
  • Tailors corporate marketing programs and campaigns to appeal to market-specific audiences; including but not limited to members, providers, community stakeholders, legislators and government entities.
  • Partners with Corporate Communications and Corporate Marketing to ensure consistency and alignment with enterprise brand and editorial standards.
  • Monitors results and outcomes of strategic marketing and communications initiatives.
  • Tests the resonance of marketing programs and brand communications among market-based stakeholders; adjusting initiatives accordingly.
  • Leverages and shares market-specific feedback to enhance development of corporate marketing strategies.
  • · Establishes and manages relationships with key media outlets acting as a media liaison and spokesperson when necessary and developing strategies for positive media coverage.
  • Works closely with the member engagement and provider network management teams to identify and develop member, provider and other public-facing collateral through use of the Corporate Communications agency model.
  • Ensures all Medicaid related materials are approved by the appropriate regulatory entity.
  • Provides associate communications support for the health plan and leadership.
  • Oversee production of the plan’s annual Report to the Community.
  • Monitors and analyzes monthly departmental expenditures and budget variances.

 

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations or a related field.
  • Master’s Degree Preferred.
  • 8 to 10 years progressively responsible business experience with five years’ experience in managing a Public Relations, Communications or Marketing function preferably in a healthcare setting.

 

Other Skills: 

  • Excellent communication, publication and advertising production skills.
  • Proven research and marketing survey knowledge.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in speaking with the media, news reporting and writing.
  • Proven knowledge in graphic software.
