What are the responsibilities and job description for the Social Housing Initiative VISTA DC position at AmeriCorps?
Mi Casa is a Latino-led affordable housing nonprofit supporting D.C. residents primarily at extremely low-income levels, the majority of whom identify as immigrants, Latino, or Black. We develop and preserve existing small-scale neighborhood rental and cooperative housing and provide training and technical assistance to strengthen diverse communities. This project expands our capacity and low income communities' capacity to support one another, increase social connectedness, and build community within the framework of permanently affordable housing. The project will increase Mi Casa’s capacity to implement a social housing initiative that will cross over very affordable rental and cooperative projects. The intention of the initiative is to strengthen the capacity of low-income communities to support and connect with one another, increasing bonds, friendships and networks to support economic and social well-being. The design will include an outreach strategy, building organizational capacity and coordinating the availability of physical space for community gatherings to create, begin implementing, and assessing the effectiveness of the plan. This project requires creative thinking, interest and ability to work with diverse groups of people, and belief in the capacity of low-income individuals and communities to create mutual support networks.
