What are the responsibilities and job description for the MedServe position at AmeriCorps?
AmeriCorps members work in both a clinical role and a community role (approximately 40 hours per week). The goal of this position is to provide service to the local community and to set members on a trajectory to a career of service in healthcare. Must be a graduate of an accredited bachelor’s degree program. Work or volunteer experience in a medical practice and an interest in entering the medical profession is strongly preferred in the selection process. MedServe AmeriCorps members undergo a rigorous two week Training Institute to prepare for their roles. In addition, we host quarterly skill summits across the state to expose students to key medical concepts and help them prepare for the next stage of their medical education.

Member Duties : We believe members should be exposed to the clinical and community components of being a primary care physician; we think it is crucial that they do so in a way that is beneficial to clinics. For that reason, we have established six trainable roles for MedServe members. Each of our clinic partners select one clinical and one community role for a member to complete, based on what represents the greatest needs in their practice. Clinical roles assist with clinical flow and are designed to facilitate ease & efficiency for clinic staff. Community roles grow clinic performance in the context of the local health community. Clinical roles are medical scribe, limited-scope medical assistant, and medical interpreter. Community roles are community health worker, health coach, and quality improvement specialist.
