What are the responsibilities and job description for the Heart of Oregon Corps Food Heroes Team Leader position at AmeriCorps?
This AmeriCorps Team Leader position is a 19-week term of service, requiring a minimum of 675 hours. The Team Leader will play a vital role in guiding and supporting a team of AmeriCorps members as they work to reduce food insecurity. In addition to leading by example and fostering teamwork, the Team Leader will assist with the collection and reporting of data, including tracking outcomes that support food insecurity research and community needs. The Team Leader will also gain hands-on experience and formal training in Supply Chain, Warehousing, and Logistics; obtain an Oregon State Food Handler’s card; and learn best horticulture practices for growing health, sustainable food. The Team Leader will also promote community service, increase awareness of strategies to reduce food insecurity, and share knowledge gained in horticulture practices with both their team and the community. Upon successful completion of the term, the Team Leader will be eligible to receive the AmeriCorps Education Award.
Member Duties : Attend and help lead Heart of Oregon Corps trainings, modeling professional behavior and encouraging engagement. Trainings include a 3–4 day orientation, Skills Clinics, Gardening Seminars, Career/College Prep, and safety sessions. Lead community garden projects: planting, tending, weeding, and harvesting, guiding members in best practices and safe, effective work. Support pantry operations: loading, delivering, sorting, setting up food, and providing customer service while modeling high-quality service. Assist with data collection, ensuring accurate entry of patron info and administering food security surveys. Help plan, prep, pack, and deliver food to patrons unable to visit the pantry. Support planning and participation in member-led community service activities, providing guidance, motivation, and leadership to maximize impact.
