What are the responsibilities and job description for the Bellevue Emergency Management VISTA Outreach Member position at AmeriCorps?
The City of Bellevue’s Office of Emergency Management is dedicated to preparing for, responding to, and recovering from disasters in the region. While first responders play an important role in disaster response, the reality is that improving personal preparedness amongst community members is critical to building a resilient community that is prepared for any disaster. The AmeriCorps Member will be responsible for building programs that support community members who have traditionally faced additional barriers in disaster response and recovery. They will be responsible for developing community assessment tools, outreach frameworks, training materials, evaluation tools, etc. to help ensure these communities have access to the resource they need to become better prepared. We are looking for an AmeriCorps member who has a passion for public service. To be successful the member will need excellent project management experience, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to be flexible and adapt. During their service, the AmeriCorps member will gain unique insight into the world of emergency management. Finally, the AmeriCorps member will receive mentorship and support from the current OEM team who are eager to help implement the programs and build a stronger more prepared community.
Member Duties : The AmeriCorps member will be responsible for building preparedness programs and tools that build resilience for members of the community that are traditionally underserved, including those from low-income communities or experiencing poverty, those with access and functional needs, and those with limited English proficiency. Each of these factors can create additional barriers to preparedness that result in these communities being disproportionately impacted by emergencies or disasters. The AmeriCorps member is responsible for developing, assessing, and improving resources that staff from the Office of Emergency Management can share with members of the community so they can take proactive measures to prepare themselves and their loved ones and be more resilient in a disaster.
