Learn more: housingactionil.org/americorps. SCH is a nonprofit community organization with 50 years of experience providing bilingual housing counseling and education to meet the financial and housing needs of low-to-moderate income households. Our goal is to decrease the wealth gap and build generational wealth for low-income communities across Chicagoland, who are frequently facing disinvestment and predatory housing practices. The Systems & Resources VISTA will build capacity for our organization by creating and enhancing a robust ecosystem of online tools to bring more value to membership. The VISTA will also create the framework for a monthly newsletter to encourage consistent engagement and educate members on different topics, resources, and services. We are seeking applicants with a positive outlook and people skills that will strengthen the SCH team. Our ideal candidate has advanced communication and presentation skills; experience related to communication or data sciences; and interest in leading survey creation, data collection, and focus groups. While not mandatory, fluency in Spanish is a big plus! Candidates should have an interest in reducing the wealth gap in our communities and increasing access to affordable rental housing. This role offers a $300 monthly housing stipend and $100 public transportation stipend.
Member Duties : Over 60% of the available rental housing stock in Chicago’s low-income areas, but the financial burdens and lack of supportive services can make it difficult to keep rent low and maintain the units. SCH provides education, application assistance, coaching, lease agreements, background checks, and more to ensure that there are resources to maintain these units safely, fairly, and affordably, but we need a Systems & Resources VISTA to create a monthly newsletter and robust ecosystem of online tools to engage and support across our communities. The VISTA will develop online tools, including a lease portal, financial tracker, newsletter, list of local servicers, and on-demand workshops. They will also create a document based on research that illustrates the services needed for affordable rental housing in our communities.
