What are the responsibilities and job description for the Facilities Maintenance Technician position at American Way Storage, LLC?
American Way Storage is a growing self-storage rental company with multiple locations in Central Illinois, and we are seeking a General Maintenance Technician to join our team. This position will be responsible for general maintenance and upkeep of facilities, in addition to preventative maintenance. This position also assists with some daily operations, such as overlocking tenant units and unlocking tenant units. Must demonstrate strong work ethic, reliability and time management. Position reports to the Area Manager.
RESPONSIBILITIES (Including but not limited to):
- Travel and visit facilities (In company trucks).
- Perform general maintenance and upkeep of facilities.
- Assist with outsourcing work to licensed contractors, as necessary (i.e. for Door replacement or electrical work).
- Clean out units and assist with tenant lockouts as directed by the Area Manager.
- Provide bi-weekly inspection reports of each facility.
- Ensure each facility is clean, free of trash, and in safe conditions for our customers.
- Control of the weeds at each facility by spraying or weed eating. Occasional mowing, grading, lawn care, and snow removal may be required.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum education: High School Diploma
- Minimum experience: one year in either building or mechanical maintenance and repair
- Good communication and time management skills
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions as needed
- Ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects at once
- Willing to work hard, and have a flexible schedule as needed
- Must be able to respond to emergency maintenance calls during all hours
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Valid driver’s license, access to a reliable automobile, and cell phone with calling and texting capabilities – REQUIRED
- Must be willing to travel to all American Way Storage facilities throughout Illinois

Starting position: Hourly, based on experience and ability
