Description
American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN with 2 years of surgical unit experience for a night shift position requiring VA or compact RN license and BLS certification.
Details
- Fast-paced inpatient surgical unit setting
- Patient population includes general, abdominal, urological, orthopedic, spine, bariatric, hysterectomy, and mastectomy surgical patients
- Accepts pediatric surgical patients aged 12 and above depending on procedure
- Patient ratio of 1:6
- Night shift schedule, 3x12 hours, 19:00-7:00
- Every other weekend required
- Floating to other units expected at times
- Meditech charting system preferred
Requirements
- Active VA or compact RN license required
- BLS certification required
- Minimum 2 years of surgical unit experience required
- Previous charge experience preferred
- Community hospital experience preferred
- Skills in IV therapy/phlebotomy, central line and PICC line management, blood product administration required
- Respiratory care skills including chest tube management, oxygen administration, and suctioning required
- Wound care/wound vac and isolation precautions/PPE experience required
- Experience with heparin, insulin, and PCA medication administration required
- Cardiac monitoring and telemetry experience preferred
- Experience with total joint replacement and peripheral nerve block catheters preferred
Additional Information
- Provide direct patient care across a range of surgical specialties including orthopedic, cardiovascular, and general surgery cases
- Block scheduling cannot be guaranteed, though efforts will be made to group shifts when possible
- RTO policy requires working one holiday if it falls within the assignment, one of two if two holidays occur, and two of three if three holidays occur
- Must be able to pass a fit test requiring facial hair to be shaved unless an approved medical exemption is obtained prior to start
- Zero-tolerance policy for THC, including medical marijuana cards
- Local candidates within 50 miles of the facility are not accepted
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Candidates who previously worked in a permanent role at this facility within the past 24 months are not eligible
