American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position requiring at least 2 years of experience, ACLS and NIHSS certifications, and Epic proficiency for a 13-week night shift assignment.
Details- Progressive Care Unit (PCU) in an acute care hospital setting, Level II Trauma Center
- 35-bed unit serving adult and geriatric patients with cardiac, nephrology, stroke, diabetes, and continuous EEG monitoring cases
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4-5; nursing aides/patient care techs available at a 1:10 ratio
- RNs are required to titrate drips, including Cardizem, beta-blockers, and seizure medications
- Charting is done in Epic; experience required
- 12-hour night shifts (1830–0700)
- Every other weekend required
- Every third holiday required
- Floating may be required to medical floors, ICU, or rehab
- No on-call or standby requirement
- Active NE or Compact (NLC) RN license required; pending licenses are not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS; pending certifications are not accepted
- Epic EMR experience required
- Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility; a valid driver's license is required for consideration to verify permanent address
- Candidates may not be currently employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) at any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI or Dignity Health
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- Copy of driver's license required for consideration
- Orientation consists of onboarding in the first week followed by 1–2 days of floor-specific orientation
- A pass/fail open-book skills exam is administered on the first Friday of orientation; a score of 90% or higher is required to pass — failure to pass results in contract termination
- Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care departments; refusal to remove them will result to contract termination
- This is a fast-paced unit; candidates who thrive here typically demonstrate a positive attitude, strong communication, critical thinking, and effective problem-solving skills
- RTO must be requested upfront and is limited to 7 or fewer days per 13-week contract; additional RTO will not be approved
- Candidates previously employed PRN through outside staffing firms at CommonSpirit-affiliated facilities may still be considered
