Position Summary

The Quality Control Inspector is responsible for inspecting materials, components, processes, and finished products to ensure they meet customer requirements, engineering specifications, quality standards, and applicable industry codes.

This position is an integral member of ASA's Quality Assurance / Quality Control (QA/QC) team and will perform inspections throughout the manufacturing process, with a primary focus on weld inspection, powder coating inspection, and grit blasting inspection. The Quality Control Inspector will also support additional quality functions, audits, testing, documentation, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Inspection Areas:

Weld Inspection

· Weld size and profile

· Bead formation

· Weld penetration

· Visual weld quality and workmanship

· Identification of cracks, cold welds, spatter, undercutting, and other defects

Powder Coating Inspection

· Dry Film Thickness (DFT)

· Cure verification

· Adhesion testing

· Swab testing

· Overall coating quality

Grit Blasting Inspection

· Surface profile measurement

· Blast media verification

· Compliance with applicable SSPC standards and specifications

What You'll Do

Quality Inspection & Testing

· Promote and foster a culture of safety, quality, and accountability.

· Ensure quality standards are consistently met and champion quality ownership throughout the assigned work centers.

· Execute applicable elements of ASA's Quality Assurance Manual and Quality Assurance Procedures.

· Assist in maintaining and developing the company's inspection program.

· Perform in-process and final inspections, including dimensional verification, weld inspection, coating inspection, and other required product testing.

· Maintain accurate inspection records and documentation.

· Verify finished product dimensions and ensure conformance with engineering drawings, work orders, specifications, and customer requirements.

· Conduct daily floor inspections, including review of documentation, general part fit-up, and visual weld quality.

· Review applicable Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), welding credentials, and related documentation for compliance.

· Perform visual inspection (VT) of welded joints for weld size, bead formation, penetration, and other applicable criteria.

· Inspect welded joints for defects such as cracks, cold welds, spatter, undercuts, and other nonconformances using appropriate inspection tools and methods.

· Perform in-process inspection of blasted surfaces to verify proper surface profile.

· Perform sieve testing of blast media to verify appropriate media profile.

· Perform in-process powder coating inspections, including DFT measurements, swab testing, and adhesion testing.

· Perform additional non-destructive testing (NDT), including Penetrant Testing (PT), Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), and other methods as required.

· Assist with the inspection and release of incoming raw materials, supplied components, supplied products, and finished products.

· Verify materials and products against drawings, purchase orders, work orders, specifications, standards, Material Test Reports (MTRs), and other applicable documentation.

· Review Material Test Reports (MTRs) as required.

· Assist with the investigation and resolution of quality issues and nonconformances.

Training, Auditing & Collaboration

· Assist with training production employees on quality requirements, inspection methods, and applicable procedures.

· Conduct product and process audits and prepare findings reports as required.

· Communicate quality-related issues and concerns to Shift Supervisors, Operations Management, Engineering, Quality personnel, and other appropriate leadership.

· Collaborate effectively with Operations, Quality, Technical Services, Engineering, and other cross-functional teams.

· Enforce company rules, policies, quality standards, and procedures.

· Communicate issues, concerns, and opportunities for improvement to leadership.

· Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by Division and/or Corporate Management.

Education Requirements

· High School Diploma or GED required.

· Technical school education and/or relevant practical experience strongly preferred.

Experience & Certifications

· AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) designation preferred.

· Experience in a manufacturing and/or steel fabrication environment preferred.

· Working knowledge of arc welding processes for carbon, stainless, and alloy steels preferred.

· Familiarity with powder coating processes preferred.

· Familiarity with AWS and MIL-STD specifications and codes preferred.

· Experience performing or assisting with non-destructive testing methods such as:

· Penetrant Testing (PT/Dye Penetrant)

· Magnetic Particle Testing (MT)

· Dry Film Thickness (DFT)

· Adhesion testing

· Other testing methods required by applicable specifications

· Strong understanding of shop mathematics, including fraction-to-decimal conversions.

· Ability to accurately use tape measures, calipers, micrometers, and other precision measuring equipment.

· Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, work orders, and specifications.

· Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365.

· Experience working in a manufacturing, steel fabrication, or distribution environment preferred.

· Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and move throughout a manufacturing environment as required to perform inspections.

· Ability to safely work around manufacturing equipment, tools, and materials.

· Adequate depth perception and color discrimination necessary to perform visual inspections and safely perform job duties.
