Job Description
Assistant Planning & Zoning Director
Join the Town of Stowe in a key leadership role helping shape one of Vermont's most vibrant communities. As the Assistant Planning & Zoning Director, you'll oversee day-to-day land use permitting and development review and provide expert guidance to residents and applicants.
In this role, you'll review development applications, interpret and administer land use regulations, conduct site inspections, investigate zoning complaints, and collaborate with municipal staff and volunteer boards. You'll also play an important role in improving processes, supporting enforcement efforts, and delivering exceptional customer service to the public.
We're looking for a collaborative, solutions-oriented professional with strong technical knowledge, sound judgment, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to serving the community with integrity and professionalism.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in planning, community development, public administration, or a related field, plus at least three to five years of progressively responsible professional experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Candidates must have working knowledge of Vermont's Planning and Development Act (24 V.S.A. Chapter 117) and municipal zoning and subdivision regulations. Candidates must be able to confidently read and interpret site plans and construction drawings, apply land use regulations fairly and consistently, communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, and work collaboratively as part of a close team.
Competitive pay: $81,267 - $91,520 depending on qualifications.
