Position Description

American Peat Technology (APT) is seeking a dependable, safety-focused, and detail-oriented Plant Operator to support daily manufacturing and production operations within the organization. This role is responsible for operating production equipment efficiently, maintaining product quality standards, and contributing to a safe and productive work environment.

The ideal candidate is reliable, mechanically inclined, and capable of working collaboratively with team members to ensure production goals and operational standards are consistently achieved. This role requires strong attention to detail, adherence to safety procedures, and the ability to identify and communicate operational issues in a timely manner.

The schedule for this position may include day, night, rotating, or weekend shifts based on operational needs. Work locations include APT’s primary manufacturing facilities located near and within the city of Aitkin.

This position starts at $18/hour, paid bi-weekly in accordance with the Company’s standard payroll practices. Compensation may be adjusted upward based on applicable experience, qualifications, certifications, and demonstrated skills. Shift differential is available for night shift assignments. This position is classified as non-exempt.

This position reports to the Plant Supervisor.

Job Duties

Production Operations and Equipment Monitoring

  • Safely and efficiently operate production machinery and manufacturing equipment according to established procedures
  • Monitor production processes to ensure operational efficiency, product consistency, and quality standards are met
  • Perform routine inspections of equipment, raw materials, and finished products
  • Adjust equipment settings and production parameters as needed to maintain optimal performance
  • Maintain accurate production logs, operational records, and quality documentation

Safety and Compliance

  • Follow all company safety procedures, OSHA regulations, and PPE requirements
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
  • Report safety concerns, hazards, accidents, or near misses promptly
  • Participate in safety program, training sessions, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Support compliance with company policies and applicable regulatory requirements

Equipment Maintenance and Troubleshooting

  • Identify equipment malfunctions, process interruptions, or operational inefficiencies
  • Perform minor equipment adjustments and preventative maintenance tasks
  • Assist maintenance personnel and supervisors with troubleshooting and corrective actions
  • Communicate maintenance needs and operational concerns in a timely manner

Quality Assurance and Continuous Improvement

  • Inspect products and processes to ensure quality standards are consistently achieved
  • Identify opportunities to reduce waste, improve efficiency, and minimize downtime
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on operational performance and productivity
  • Assist in maintaining operational consistency and workflow efficiency across production areas

Communication and Team Collaboration

  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, maintenance personnel, and team members
  • Support team objectives and contribute to a positive work environment
  • Assist with training and onboarding activities as assigned
  • Maintain professionalism and accountability in all operational responsibilities

Position Requirements

  • Prior experience operating production equipment or working in a manufacturing environment preferred
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability
  • Knowledge of workplace safety procedures and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Ability to monitor production processes and maintain accurate records
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform repetitive physical tasks throughout scheduled shifts
  • Ability to work flexible schedules, including nights, weekends, overtime, or rotating shifts as operational needs require

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

  • This position operates primarily in a manufacturing and production environment
  • Prolonged periods of standing, walking, bending, lifting, and operating machinery
  • Ability to occasionally lift, move, push, or pull materials and equipment consistent with operational needs
  • Exposure to noise, dust, moving mechanical parts, temperature fluctuations, and outdoor conditions
  • Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE) including safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, respirators, and protective footwear
