What are the responsibilities and job description for the Fabrication Manager position at American Locker?
The Fabrication Manager will directly lead and supervise welders, fabricators, and other employees in the fabrication shop. Plan and establish work schedules, assignments and production sequences to meet production goals. Interpret specifications, blueprints, job orders and company policies and procedures for workers. Monitor and maintain steel and parts inventory.
Duties/Responsibilities.
• Review blueprints for completeness, accuracy and conformance to standards before distributing to shop for production.
• Assign work orders to welders/fabricators; manage and track so projects are completed on time.
• Monitor and manage steel and parts inventory.
• Coordinate in-house fabrication, maintenance or repair projects or tasks within or between departments.
• Participate in interviewing, hiring and training new employees. Assign new employees to experienced workers for mentoring/training.
• Review employee performance and make compensation recommendations. Make other employment recommendations as needed.
• Ensure safety procedures are adhered
• Ensure employees are properly trained to operate equipment
• Manage preventative maintenance for equipment
• Repair equipment as necessary.
• Inspect work progress, equipment and tools to verify safety or to ensure that specifications are met; provide instruction to employees to prevent, detect and correct unsafe conditions or violations of procedure and/or safety rules.
• Expected to function as a working leader and ability to help in production/fabrication when needed.
• Provides guidance, direction and leadership to ensure that parts are manufactured with the highest level of quality in a safe and timely manner that will meet or exceed customer expectations
• Conducts fact-based analysis using lean techniques to create value, eliminates waste and drives continuous process improvement related to safety, quality, delivery, inventory, and productivity
• Any other duty as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Will lead fifteen (15) to twenty (20) employees within the fabrication department.
Requirements
Required Skills/Abilities:
• Knowledge of design techniques, tools and principals involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
• Knowledge of all types of metals and relevant welding/fabricating and cutting techniques.
• Ability to accurately add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure.
• Ensure all shop employees know and follow all company safety policies, procedures and applicable laws.
• Basic computer and software knowledge; including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), CNC software, CAD viewer helpful.
• Excellent communication skills – reading/writing/verbal English and Spanish for efficiency in communicating to employees work assignments, promote safe work practices, communicate with upper management and prepare and transmit consistent, accurate reports and time keeping.
• Use good judgment and decision-making skills to answer questions, address complaints and resolve problems.
Education/Experience Required:
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in business, finance or related preferred.
• A combination of education and experience may be substituted for the education requirement.
• Five (5) plus years of supervisory experience may be required.
• Five (5) plus years of combination of education and experience in a similar role.
Physical Requirements:
• Regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in shop conditions that include heat and humidity. Occasionally exposed to risk of electric shock.
• Must be able to lift, push, pull or carry objects, use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue. (Occasionally lift 75lbs., frequently lift 50 lbs.)
• Requires good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arm, two hands) and multi-limb coordination.
• Wear common protective or safety equipment such as safety shoes, glasses, gloves and hearing protection.
• Must be able to quickly move arms and legs.
• Excellent stamina is required.
