Job Summary:
The Metal Fabrication Foreman will be responsible for overseeing and managing the day-to-day operations in our fabrication shop. As a working foreman, the position requires you to perform as a welder/fabricator as well as a manager. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of metalworking processes, leadership skills, and a commitment to producing top-tier results. This role requires someone with hands-on experience in metal fabrication, excellent communication abilities, and a keen eye for quality control.
Job Summary:
As the Metal Fabrication Working Foreman, you will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the shop while also being actively involved in hands-on fabrication work. You will lead and supervise a skilled team of fabricators, welders, and machinists, ensuring that projects are completed on time, to specification, and with the highest quality standards. Your expertise in metalworking processes and your leadership skills will be key to driving success on the shop floor.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervision & Leadership: Oversee a team of welders/fabricators and machine operators, ensuring productivity and maintaining high-quality standards.
- Hands-On Fabrication: Actively participate in fabrication processes including welding, cutting, grinding, assembly, and machining.
- Project Management: Assist in planning, scheduling, and coordinating fabrication projects to meet deadlines and client specifications.
- Quality Control: Perform inspections of materials, work-in-progress, and finished products to ensure adherence to blueprints, safety standards, and quality specifications.
- Team Support & Training: Provide guidance and training to team members, helping them improve skills, troubleshooting problems, and adhering to best practices.
- Workflow Optimization: Assign tasks, monitor shop flow, and troubleshoot any issues that arise during the fabrication process.
- Safety Management: Enforce all safety protocols and ensure a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Organization: Manage inventory of materials and supplies, ensuring adequate stock levels for projects.
- Communication: Collaborate with project managers, welders, and detailers to ensure clear communication and smooth project execution.
Qualifications:
- Experience: At least 5 years of hands-on experience in metal fabrication, with 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
- Skills: Strong knowledge of welding, cutting, bending, grinding, machining, assembling and other metalworking techniques.
- Knowledge: Proficiency in various welding techniques (e.g., MIG, TIG) and fabrication processes. Extensive knowledge of materials used in custom fabrication, including carbon steel, aluminum, and stainless steel. Ability to operate and maintain metalworking equipment (Knowledge of CNC machine and press brake is a bonus).
- Management: Ability to manage and prioritize projects to meet deadlines and exceed client expectations.
- Technical Understanding: Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings, blueprints, and CAD files.
- Leadership: Proven ability to lead a team, motivate workers, and resolve issues on the shop floor.
- Safety Awareness: Strong understanding of shop safety practices and OSHA standards.
- Problem-Solving: Excellent troubleshooting skills with the ability to resolve technical challenges quickly and efficiently.
- Communication: Ability to communicate clearly with team members, supervisors, and clients.
