Position: Plant Health Care Technician I, Lawn Care

Reports to: Service Manager, Plant Health Care

Classification: Full-Time Hourly Non-Exempt

Position Core Profile: The Lawn Care Technician I is an entry-level role focused on learning and performing basic lawn care services under supervision. This position supports the application of fertilizers, weed control products, and seasonal turf treatments across residential and commercial properties. Technicians at this level gain hands-on experience in turf health, safety protocols, and customer service while developing the skills necessary for advancement.

Accountabilities

  • Lawn Care Application: Apply fertilizers, herbicides, and other lawn care products safely and precisely, following all label instructions and safety protocols. Support seasonal lawn care tasks such as seeding, aeration, and turf enhancement treatments.
  • Lawn Diagnosis & Customer Solutions: Assist in diagnosing and resolving basic lawn problems, including pest, weed, and nutrient issues. Provide both written and verbal lawn analysis quotes to potential customers, including tailored recommendations to improve lawn health. Develop individualized care plans based on customer needs and lawn conditions.
  • Customer Engagement & Sales: Pursue new customer contracts and encourage re-enrollment of existing customers through proactive service and communication. Promote additional services and upgrades based on lawn assessments and seasonal needs.
  • Recordkeeping & Compliance: Maintain accurate records of all product applications and service activities for billing and compliance purposes. Collaborate with the Crew Leader or Service Manager to ensure proper documentation and customer file updates.
  • Equipment & Site Maintenance: Maintain cleanliness and organization of tools, vehicles, and equipment to ensure safe and efficient operations. Promote continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
  • Safety & Compliance: Follow all safety procedures and wear required PPE at all times. Adhere to company policies and supervisor instructions. Report unsafe conditions or incidents immediately. Participate in daily job briefings or safety meetings as assigned.

Experience And Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Experience: No prior lawn care experience required; training provided
  • Licensing/Certification: Valid state driver's license required

Working Conditions And Availability Disclosure

  • Requires frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, crouching, and reaching, as well as regular use of hands and arms to perform manual labor and operate landscaping equipment. Employees must be able to lift and carry materials and tools weighing up to 50 pounds, with heavier lifting being team-assisted or reasonably accommodated. The role involves the operation of various landscaping tools and equipment such as trimmers, blowers, mowers, and shovels. It also requires sufficient visual acuity and hand-eye coordination to safely perform detailed tasks and operate machinery. Additionally, the position may occasionally involve climbing or working at heights, including on ladders, slopes, or uneven terrain.
  • Work is regularly performed outdoors and exposes the employee to a variety of weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, wind, and sun. There is potential exposure to noise, dust, pollen, and various plant and chemical materials commonly used in landscaping. The job may require working on uneven terrain, near traffic, or within active construction zones. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE), such as gloves, safety glasses, ear protection, and boots, is required to ensure safety on the job
  • Must be available for early start times, overtime, or weekend shifts as needed
