Title: Structural Engineer

 

You'll Report To: Vice President of Claims 

 

The Engineer will utilize an advanced understanding and knowledge of engineering principles and methods while investigating, inspecting and interpreting evidence of property damage for residential buildings, determining origin, cause, and duration. He/she will prepare clear and concise reports and will provide deposition, mediation, and/or trial testimony as needed.

What You’ll Do

  • Surveys losses to determine and verify the cause, origin, and extent of the property damage.
  • Able to identify duration of water damage.
  • Communicate repair techniques and methods to staff and outside contractors (i.e. plumbing reroute). Utilize engineering knowledge to make recommendations on repairs or method of repair.
  • Conducts inclusive investigations on cause of loss and procures proper documentation.
  • Collaborates with other investigators and/or claims adjuster to produce detailed reports outlining the cause and origin of losses.
  • Serves as an expert witness in depositions, mediations, and/or trial.
  • Communicates with customers, agents, and other partners verbally and in writing in a professional manner.
  • Maintains appropriate documentation on all claim files and processes investigations in a timely manner.
  • Reviews and processes correspondence and take appropriate action as needed.
  • Meets company service standards and effectively uses the diary system to remain current.
  • Manages special projects, as assigned, within the established time and quality guidelines.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

What You’ll Need to be a Top Candidate

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited university, required. 

 

Experience: Five (5) to seven (7) years of structural engineering experience required; forensic experience preferred. 

Licensure: Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.), required. HAAG, ICC (International Code Council) and TIC (Threshold Inspectors Certification) preferred. 

Skills:

  • Strong understanding of structural and forensic engineering principals. 
  • Understanding of building codes. 
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to problem solve. 
  • Ability to clearly communicate engineering principals, verbally and in writing, to a variety of technical / professional / consumer clients. 
  • Microsoft Windows and Office Suite. 
  • Familiarity with industry claims systems and property estimating systems, Xactimate preferred.

Your Environment

Working Conditions: This is a 100% remote position except for physical attendance in office for various meetings and company functions deemed mandatory or voluntary by management or senior leadership. Must be able to drive for time periods needed to access loss locations which may require several hours continuously operating a motor vehicle. The person in this position needs to be able to lift and move up to 50lbs and climb a ladder to heights of 12 to 15 feet. She/he must be able to perform all clerical and administrative functions needed to complete their duties remotely.  

Travel: Field travel as required.
