A Elevator Modernization Mechanic

Unitec seeks an experienced "A" Elevator Modernization Mechanic for its New York City (NYC) location.

The Class "A" Elevator Modernization Mechanic is responsible for and ensures the safe and efficient installations of elevators and other lifting equipment. This position requires proficiency in close-tolerance mechanical work on intricate control circuits, and the ability to diagnose and repair complex mechanical and electrical issues. 

Responsibilities: 

• Make necessary repairs, adjustments, or replace defective parts accurately to complete repairs. 
• Conduct regular inspections to ensure equipment is functioning properly. 
• Repair worms, gears, wiring, connecting, testing controllers, and other auxiliary electrical equipment. 
• Perform machine babbitting, thrust renewals, motor and controller removal, and replacement. 
• Maintain accurate records of all repairs performed. 
• Provide excellent customer service to building owners and occupants. 
• Extensive knowledge of elevator mechanics and electrical systems. 
• Ability to install, repair, and maintain elevators and other lifting equipment. 
• Proficiency in close-tolerance mechanical work and intricate control circuits. 
• Experience with difficult mechanical and electrical repairs and installations. 
• Ability to diagnose faulty operations and determine the source of failures and shutdowns. 
• Adherence to safety protocols and regulations is mandatory. 
• Perform other duties as assigned.  

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Must have a valid NYS & NYC Mechanics License.
• Completion of an apprenticeship program or technical school training in elevator repair.
• Minimum five years of experience in elevator repair and installation.
• Knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems, safety regulations, and building codes.
• Ability to read and understand schematics.
• Experience working on hydraulic elevators.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
• Valid driver's license.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Must have a valid NYS & NYC Mechanics License.

Work Environment & Hazards:

• Elevator Mechanics work in various building types, including commercial, residential, and industrial settings.
• Exposure to heights, confined spaces, and loud noises
• Potential exposure to hazardous materials or conditions including electrical shock, falls, and exposure to hazardous chemicals.

Special Physical Demands:

• Elevator Mechanics must be able to lift heavy objects and equipment up to fifty pounds (50lbs) or more, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces.
• The job may require standing for prolonged periods of time and working in awkward positions.
• Manual dexterity for handling small tools and parts., good vision for close work, and reading schematics.
