JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Mechanic Shop Manager

Job Summary:
The Mechanic Shop Manager is responsible for supervising all mechanic shops within the company. This role involves overseeing the maintenance, repair, and servicing of all rolling stock used in the ready-mix concrete production and delivery process. The Mechanic Shop Manager ensures that all shops operate efficiently, safely, and in compliance with industry standards. This position requires strong leadership, organizational, and technical skills to manage a team of mechanics and ensure the reliability and performance of the fleet.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Safety and Compliance:
    • Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations while overseeing maintenance and repair activities.
    • Ensure that all vehicles and equipment comply with local, state, and federal safety standards.
    • Promote a safe working environment by conducting regular safety checks and training sessions.
  • Shop Management:
    • Supervise all mechanic shops within the company, ensuring efficient and effective operations.
    • Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) for maintenance and repair activities.
    • Monitor shop performance and implement improvements as needed.
  • Team Leadership and Development:
    • Lead, train, and develop a team of mechanics, providing technical support and guidance.
    • Conduct performance evaluations and provide feedback to enhance team productivity and morale.
    • Foster a collaborative and safety-oriented workplace culture.
  • Vehicle and Equipment Maintenance:
    • Oversee routine maintenance and repairs on all rolling stock, including mixers, trucks, and other machinery.
    • Ensure that all maintenance and repair activities are completed in accordance with industry standards and safety regulations.
    • Develop and implement a preventive maintenance schedule to minimize downtime and extend the lifespan of vehicles and equipment.
  • Repair and Service:
    • Supervise and support mechanics in performing door calls, road calls, and handling all work from air leaks to electrical to brakes and some engine work.
    • Respond to emergency breakdowns and perform on-site repairs as needed to minimize disruption to operations.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
    • Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair activities.
    • Document inspections, repairs, and services performed on vehicles and equipment.
    • Provide regular updates to management on the status and condition of the fleet.
  • Inventory Management:
    • Manage inventory of spare parts, tools, and equipment required for maintenance and repairs.
    • Order and replenish supplies as needed to ensure availability for timely repairs.
    • Keep track of inventory levels and report any shortages or discrepancies.
  • Customer Relations:
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external customers, ensuring their needs are met.
    • Address customer inquiries, complaints, and issues professionally and promptly.

Requirements:

  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience as a mechanic, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role, preferably in the ready-mix concrete industry.
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training or certification in mechanics preferred.
  • Licenses/Certifications: ASE certification or equivalent preferred. Driver's license and medical card. CDL preferred.
  • Technical Proficiency: Proficient in using diagnostic tools and equipment.
  • Basic computer skills, including email usage.
  • Knowledge: Strong understanding of mechanical systems and industry regulations.
  • Attendance is required.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position supervises all mechanics within the company. Responsibilities include training, assigning work, and evaluating performance.

Working Conditions:
Primarily works in a shop setting and may be subject to outdoor weather conditions, work near mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electric shock, vibration. May be required to work outside of regular business hours, including evenings and weekends to address urgent issues. Travel between various plant locations is required. Ability to work in various environmental conditions, including exposure to loud noises, dust, fumes, and vibration. Working around mechanical moving parts. Sometimes required to make road calls, subjecting them to additional hazards away from the shop.

Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Prolonged periods of standing, walking, and sitting. Manual dexterity to operate tools, vehicles, and equipment. Stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell. Ability to work in various environmental conditions, including exposure to loud noises, dust, fumes, and vibration. Working around mechanical moving parts.
