Job Overview
We are seeking a dependable and motivated Shop Diesel Mechanic to join our team. The ideal candidate must have previous mechanic experience and a basic understanding of diesel engines. In this role, you will assist with diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining diesel trucks and equipment while working alongside our experienced mechanics. You will also help maintain a clean, organized shop, pick up parts when needed, and perform grease trap service routes a couple of times per week. This work includes cleaning small indoor grease traps at restaurant locations and requires working around strong odors.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose mechanical issues on diesel trucks and equipment with guidance as needed.
- Perform repairs by replacing or repairing faulty components.
- Complete routine maintenance, including oil changes, filter replacements, brake service, and other preventative maintenance.
- Assist with engine, suspension, drivetrain, electrical, and hydraulic repairs.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized shop environment.
- Pick up parts and supplies from local vendors as needed.
- Perform scheduled grease trap service routes several times per week at customer locations.
- Clean, sanitize, and service small indoor grease traps at restaurant locations.
- Snake drains and clean baffle inlet and outlet lines as needed.
- Safely handle grease trap waste while maintaining a professional and clean work area.
- Assist other technicians and shop personnel with various mechanical and shop-related tasks.
- Follow all shop safety procedures and company policies.
Qualifications
- Previous mechanic experience is required.
- Basic understanding of diesel engines is required.
- Ability to diagnose and repair mechanical issues using hand and power tools.
- Familiarity with preventative maintenance and repair procedures.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to continue learning.
- Ability to lift heavy objects and perform physically demanding work.
- Comfortable working in environments with strong odors while servicing grease traps.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record preferred.
- Knowledge of shop safety practices.
- Basic reading and writing skills.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
