About the Role American Anthracite is seeking a highly skilled and safety-conscious Excavator Operator to join our surface mining operations. In this role, you will be at the forefront of our production, responsible for operating large-scale mass excavators to strip overburden, extract run-of-mine (ROM) anthracite, and efficiently load our fleet of haul trucks.

Key Responsibilities
- Equipment Operation: Safely and precisely operate large crawler excavators to dig, move, and load earth, rock, and coal.
- Truck Loading: Consistently and efficiently load off-road haul trucks, ensuring proper weight distribution and preventing spillage, while maintaining clear communication with truck drivers.
- Pit & Bench Maintenance: Maintain safe highwalls, clean benches, and proper drainage in the active mining areas.
- Inspections & Maintenance: Conduct thorough pre-shift and post-shift walk-around inspections. Monitor machine health (fluids, tracks, bucket teeth) and immediately report any mechanical or safety defects to the maintenance team.
- Site Safety: Strictly adhere to all MSHA regulations, internal safety policies, and site-specific operational plans. Utilize two-way radios to coordinate movements with other equipment and ground personnel.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years of proven experience operating large mass excavators (e.g., 100,000 lb operating weight, such as Volvo 950, CAT 349/395, or similar) in a surface mining, quarry, or heavy civil earthmoving environment.
- Safety First: A strong personal commitment to safety. Current MSHA Part 46 or Part 48 Surface Miner training is highly preferred.
- Technical Skill: Excellent hand-eye coordination and spatial awareness. Familiarity with modern joystick controls and in-cab telemetry/diagnostics is a plus.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to sit for extended periods, handle the physical demands of heavy equipment operation, and work outdoors in varying weather conditions (dust, rain, cold, heat).
- Reliability: Excellent attendance record and a strong work ethic. Must be willing to work required shifts, including potential overtime or weekends depending on operational needs.
