Marine Painter
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Marine Painter to support marine and shipyard painting operations. The ideal candidate will have advanced experience with surface coating applications, spray equipment setup, environmental and Dry Film Thickness (DFT) readings, and NAVSEA requirements. This position requires the ability to work independently, troubleshoot equipment, and provide direction to a small crew while maintaining safety, quality, and production standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Meet all qualifications and skill requirements of a Marine Painter .
  • Set up marine painting jobs, including preparing and operating spraying and coating equipment.
  • Apply marine coatings using brush, roller, and spray application methods.
  • Properly measure, document, and record Dry Film Thickness (DFT) readings.
  • Monitor and record environmental conditions associated with coating applications.
  • Set up, operate, and maintain painting and pumping equipment used during shipboard and marine operations.
  • Perform general housekeeping and maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas.
  • Follow applicable gas-free and pumping procedures when required.
  • Troubleshoot painting, spraying, and related equipment to minimize downtime and maintain job progress.
  • Provide direction and oversight to a small group of employees to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and according to specifications.
  • Read and follow work specifications, procedures, and applicable shipyard requirements.
  • Ensure coating work meets required quality standards and specifications.
  • Follow all applicable safety procedures and properly utilize required PPE.
Required Qualifications
  • Demonstrated marine painting experience.
  • Proficient in setting up and operating airless spray and other marine coating equipment.
  • Strong experience with brush and roller coating applications.
  • Ability to properly measure and record DFT and environmental readings.
  • Knowledge of pumping and gas-free procedures associated with marine/shipyard work.
  • Ability to troubleshoot painting and spraying equipment.
  • Experience overseeing or leading a small work crew.
  • Must be proficient in the requirements of NAVSEA Standard Item 009-32.
  • Ability to work aboard ships, in confined spaces, and in various shipyard environments.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and maintain required documentation.
Preferred Skills
  • Previous experience supporting U.S. Navy vessel maintenance, repair, or modernization projects.
  • Strong understanding of marine coating systems, surface preparation, and quality-control requirements.
  • Experience working in fast-paced shipyard or industrial environments.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $22.00- $28.00 Per hour”
