What are the responsibilities and job description for the School Behavior Aide position at Amergis Healthcare Staffing?
The School Aide (also known as a Paraprofessional) supports teachers and staff by assisting with instructional activities, classroom management, and student supervision. The aide helps create a positive learning environment while providing additional support to students, including those with special needs.
Key Responsibilities- Assist the teacher with classroom instruction and daily activities
- Provide one-on-one or small group support to students
- Help reinforce lessons and assist students with assignments
- Support students with:
- Academic tasks
- Behavior management
- Social skills development
- Supervise students in various settings, such as:
- Classrooms
- Hallways
- Cafeteria
- Playground
- Assist with classroom organization and preparation of materials
- Help implement IEP accommodations and modifications under teacher direction
- Monitor and report student progress and behavior
- Maintain a safe and structured environment
- Assist students with basic needs (as appropriate), including mobility or personal care
- Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, and administrators
- High school diploma or GED
- Ability to work effectively with children and follow teacher directions
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Associate’s degree or some college coursework in education or related field
- Experience working with children or in a school setting
- Experience working with students with disabilities or behavioral needs
- Paraprofessional certification (if required by district or state)
- School-based environment (classroom, playground, cafeteria, etc.)
- Work with students across different grade levels
- Requires standing, walking, and active engagement throughout the day
- May assist in classrooms supporting students with various needs
- Patience and flexibility
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to assist with classroom management
- Teamwork and collaboration
- Basic instructional support skills
- Organization and attention to detail
