Location: Alaska, USA - Anchorage Head Office & project site during the field season (May to September). 


Reports to: Vice President Exploration 


PURPOSE: 


Execute Ambler Metals’ exploration strategy across the Upper Kobuk Mineral Projects (UKMP), ensuring alignment with corporate objectives, safety, sustainability, and partnership commitments. This role manages exploration and geoscience programs from early-stage exploration through feasibility study support, advancing world-class copper-dominant polymetallic deposits in the Brooks Range. Ambler Metals LLC is a 50/50 Joint Venture between Trilogy Metals Inc. and South32 Limited.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 


Exploration Strategy and Implementation: 

  • In collaboration with the Vice President Exploration, support the development, and lead the implementation of exploration and geoscience strategies and initiatives aligned with corporate objectives. 
  • Deliver on exploration and geoscience strategy and initiatives: 
  • Deposit: resource drilling, metallurgical and geotechnical programs, condemnation drilling. 
  • Near Mine: identify and advance satellite deposits. 
  • District: Regional exploration programs including ranking, de-risking and drill-testing VMS and carbonate-hosted copper targets. 
  • Provide technical oversight for geological modeling, GIS database management, and integration of geoscience data.  
  • Ensure QA/QC standards for drilling, sampling, and data integrity are implemented. 
  • Prepare and manage budgets, forecasts, and cost control measures. 
  • Prepare, and deliver as appropriate, internal and external presentations, dashboards and technical reports. 
  • Drive continuous improvement in exploration workflows and technology adoption. 


Supervision and Staff Management: 

  • Oversee full-time staff in exploration/technical functions. 
  • Participate in hiring technical staff and supervise seasonal and defined-term hires. 
  • Responsible for training and onboarding, performance management and reviews, administrative tasks such as approving time sheets and personnel actions. 
  • Directly supervise contractors and consultants on site, including drilling companies, pad builders, technical consultants. 


Safety and Compliance: 

  • Lead safety meetings and incident/accident investigations for exploration/technical scopes. 
  • Ensure proper documentation and reporting of safety-related procedures and events. 


Shared Responsibilities: 

  • Represent Ambler Metals as a senior representative on the project site and in external engagements. 
  • Collaborate with the site manager on safety, risk, and logistics management. 
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams (exploration, environmental, camp management, contractors) to ensure integrated, safe and efficient operations. 
  • Participate in strategic planning for resource development optionality. 


QUALIFICATIONS: 


 Experience. Education and Training: 

  • M.Sc. degree in Geoscience or related discipline; advanced degree with emphasis on ore deposits or mineral exploration preferred. Candidates with a Bachelor’s degree and significant relevant experience may also be considered. 
  • Professional Geologist (P.Geo, CPG or equivalent) designation preferred. 
  • Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills. 
  • 10 years in mineral exploration with 4 years in leadership roles; Arctic/remote, as well as helicopter experience essential. 
  • Experience in VMS and/or Carbonate-hosted copper target generation, drill program design, geoscience (i.e., geology, geochemistry and geophysics) integration and deposit modelling. 
  • Proficiency in ArcGIS, Leapfrog, acQuire, ioGAS, and Microsoft Office. 
  • Valid Driver’s License and ability to obtain CPR/First Aid certification.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements: 

  • Work conducted during the off-season will occur in a standard office environment. Field season assignments require extended rotations and involves travel to remote Arctic locations. 
  • Exposure to inclement weather conditions (including snow, rain, wind as well as extremely warm or cold conditions) is common. 
  • Able to work and hike in alpine arctic terrain, harsh weather, and work in remote camps. 
  • Able to travel by helicopter, fixed-wing plane, four-wheel drive, and ATV to and around site. 
  • Physically capable of repeatedly lifting 35-50 pounds.
