Principal Technical Program Manager, Special Projects

Amazon
York, NY Full Time
POSTED ON 8/17/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 10/16/2026

Description

Amazon Special Projects incubates and launches strategic businesses for Amazon — and we're building something entirely new in the energy sector. Our mission is to explore how new technologies can unlock entirely new operating and business models in this industry. As a Principal Technical Program Manager, you'll serve as the operational backbone of this initiative: driving end-to-end launches, owning the product roadmap, and managing critical partnerships. You'll interface directly with Amazon's senior leadership and C-level executives across the energy landscape to build a zero-to-one business from the ground up. Imagine collaborating with brilliant minds to architect software solutions that push technological boundaries — your work will directly impact how enterprises approach energy technology, creating solutions that have never existed before. If you thrive in ambiguity, love owning roadmaps from concept to live, and want to define a new industry standard, this role is for you.

Key job responsibilities
Own end-to-end launches: Drive partnership launches (utility, OEM, and aggregator integrations) and product launches, managing cross-team dependencies, readiness criteria, and the complete path from agreement to live production.

Develop and manage the product roadmap: Set priorities, sequence work, and translate product intent into engineering plans while keeping the roadmap current as the business evolves.

Drive technical strategy: Balance business priorities with feasibility, anticipate constraints, and apply data-driven risk mitigation to ensure timely execution.

Manage initiative lifecycles: Oversee initiatives from design and implementation through documentation and measurement, breaking complex challenges into actionable projects and defining success metrics to track performance.

Lead cross-functional collaboration: Facilitate alignment between engineering, product, science, and business teams to ensure shared vision and priorities while translating technical concepts for business audiences and business needs for technical teams.

Manage technical partnerships: Serve as the primary program owner for utility, OEM, and aggregator partnerships, working directly with partner engineering teams to design, deliver, and maintain integrations while resolving production issues.

Bridge organizational functions: Partner with finance on planning and partnership economics, collaborate with legal on agreements and compliance, and work with procurement on vendor management to establish and maintain healthy partnerships

A day in the life
Your days blend strategic leadership with hands-on execution. You'll define mechanisms to track integration progress with utility partners, facilitate cross-functional sessions to align on roadmap priorities and unblock dependencies, negotiate commercial agreements, and engage with regulatory stakeholders. You'll operate in ambiguity, drive alignment across distributed Amazon teams, and own the critical path from concept to live production — working backward from customer and partner constraints to deliver results at scale.
