Key job responsibilities
You will be responsible for defining key research directions, adopting or inventing new machine learning techniques, conducting rigorous experiments, publishing results, and ensuring that research is translated into practice. You will develop long-term strategies, persuade teams to adopt those strategies, propose goals and deliver on them. You will also participate in organizational planning, hiring, mentorship and leadership development. You will be technically fearless and with a passion for building scalable science and engineering solutions. You will serve as a key scientific resource in full-cycle development (conception, design, implementation, testing to documentation, delivery, and maintenance).

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $179,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $309,400/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits. - PhD in one of the following disciplines: Computer Science, Machine Learning, Statistics, Applied Math or a related quantitative field
- 8 years of relevant, broad research experience after PhD
- Publications at top-tier peer-reviewed conferences or journals in one of these areas: reinforcement learning, deep learning, and machine learning
- Fluency in Python, SQL or similar scripting languages
- Strong algorithm development experience
- Depth and breadth in state-of-the-art machine learning technologies
- Strong prior experience with mentorship and/or management of senior scientists and engineers.
- Experience programming in Java, C , or related language
- Experience in building machine learning models for business application
