Job Overview
Amana Supportive Living is seeking compassionate and reliable Direct Care Staff to provide daily care and support to children and youth with developmental disabilities in a group home setting. This role is essential in creating a safe, nurturing, and supportive environment where each child can grow, thrive, and reach their full potential. Direct Care Staff will work closely with the care team to provide person-centered, trauma-informed support that meets each child’s unique needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide one-on-one support and supervision to children with daily living activities, including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and eating.
- Ensure constant supervision and safety of children both indoors and outdoors.
- Monitor and document children’s physical, emotional, and behavioral health.
- Offer emotional support, companionship, and opportunities for positive social interaction throughout the day.
- Assist children with mobility needs as required.
- Follow each child’s Individualized Instructional Support Plan (IISP) and Positive Behavioral Support Plan (PBSP).
- Implement structured routines, recreational activities, and learning opportunities appropriate to each child’s developmental level.
- Help children develop self-care skills, life skills, and positive coping strategies.
- Assist with medication administration under supervision, in accordance with Amana policies.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe living environment.
- Complete documentation, logs, and incident reports accurately and on time.
- Immediately report suspected abuse, neglect, or unusual incidents to the supervisor.
- Participate in preservice and in-service training, including trauma-informed care, behavior management, de-escalation techniques, cultural competency, and emergency procedures.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Previous experience working with children, especially children with developmental disabilities, is preferred.
- Must complete all required preservice training (16 hours), 40-hour Core Training, and maintain annual in-service training (24 hours).
All training is provided by Amana at no cost to the employee.
- Strong communication skills to work effectively with children, families, and team members.
- Ability to demonstrate patience, empathy, compassion, and sound judgment.
- Must successfully pass background checks and meet all Amana Supportive Living and licensing requirements.
- Must complete First Aid, CPR, HIPAA, Mandatory Reporting, TB testing, and Bloodborne Pathogen training during onboarding.
