Senior Project Manager – Event Management
The Senior Project Manager – Event Management provides executive-level leadership and oversight for the planning, coordination, and execution of complex, high-visibility events and outreach activities in support of a federal communications and public affairs mission. This role is responsible for managing the full event lifecycle—from strategic planning and advance coordination through on-site execution and post-event closeout—ensuring all activities are delivered on time, within scope, and in compliance with federal standards and policies.
Key responsibilities include:
- Provide overall leadership and accountability for event management operations, serving as the primary authority for planning, execution, and delivery.
- Develop comprehensive project management plans that define scope, schedules, staffing requirements, dependencies, risks, and mitigation strategies for multiple concurrent events.
- Direct and oversee logistics planning for in-person, hybrid, and virtual events, including venue research and selection, contract coordination, security requirements, accessibility accommodations, signage, shipping, and on-site operations.
- Manage cross-functional teams, subcontractors, and vendors, ensuring coordination, clear communication, and adherence to performance expectations.
- Establish and maintain detailed run-of-show documents, timelines, and contingency plans to support seamless execution.
- Ensure compliance with federal policies, branding standards, accessibility requirements (including Section 508), and approved budgets.
- Provide regular written and verbal status updates to senior stakeholders, including briefings, dashboards, and post-event reports.
- Lead post-event closeout activities, including lessons learned, survey analysis, performance reporting, and financial reconciliation.
- Anticipate evolving requirements and adjust plans proactively to address changing priorities or urgent requests.
Required qualifications to be successful in this role:
- Bachelor’s degree in business, communications, event management, public administration, or a related field.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience managing large-scale events, conferences, or outreach programs in a federal or public-sector environment.
- Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary teams and managing multiple high-profile events simultaneously.
- Advanced knowledge of project management principles, risk management, and quality control.
- Exceptional organizational, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) or equivalent certification.
- Experience supporting executive-level or nationwide events.
- Demonstrated experience managing logistics for events requiring travel and complex coordination.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIRED: Must be able to obtain a Public Trust clearance. US Citizenship is a requirement for a Public Trust clearance at this location.
