What are the responsibilities and job description for the Education Support Professionals position at Altoona Area School District?
**For the start of the 25/26 School Year (August 2025)**
This position is responsible for assisting the classroom instructor(s) in meeting the needs of special education students in accordance with the students' Individualized Educational Plans (IEPs). All activities conducted are under the direct supervision of the classroom teacher.

**ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (other duties may be assigned)**
- Monitor students on a group basis, under the direction of the classroom instructor, to ensure safety and welfare of the students.
- Assist in the delivery of curriculum to special education students, under the direction of the classroom instructor.
- Provide remedial support in areas designated by the IEP, as directed by the classroom instructor.
- Supervise visits to common public areas such as grocery store, recreation center, bank or public library; review pedestrian and safety techniques and overall wellness activities. Assist with opening cans, making bed, washing dishes, sweeping floor, cleaning room, setting table, doing laundry, etc.
- Assist student with personal activities such as restroom assistance (includes toileting / diapering), washing hands and face, brushing teeth, using deodorant, combing hair, or any activity necessary for student's comfort and well-being.
- Assist student from school bus to classroom, at times ride van to assist student during transit. Supervise or assist student with getting off and on the bus, getting from one classroom to another location, and working to improve student's fine and gross motor skills; may include working with students who are wheel-chair bound.
- Provide re-direction and intervention for behavior modifications. Intervene to refocus the student's attention toward positive behavior goals, includes observation and monitoring time, as well as documenting such behaviors as appropriate or required.
- Charting of daily or monthly management plan. Assist with necessary adaptations for the student's physical or mental needs, in accordance with the teacher's directions and student's IEP.
- Assist with the administration of testing, using relevant resource materials.
- Demonstrate regular and timely attendance.
