Job Summary:
Chemical Loader is responsible for the safe and efficient loading and unloading of railcars and tank trucks with various products and chemicals.
Tools and Equipment:
Pickup trucks, personal computers, handheld scanners, safety apparel, railroad cars, tank trucks, gauges, tanks, pumps, valves, hoses, hand tools, standard PPE, etc.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
- Receives work instructions from supervision.
- Prepares products and containers for shipment and checks the condition of tanks, railcars, and tank trucks. Makes necessary preparations before unloading or loading, makes connections, aligns valves, operates pumps, loads carriers and railcars, and performs other similar work functions.
- Operates track mobile to spot railcars for loading based on the shipping schedule
- Signal track mobile operator to start or stop trains when coupling or uncoupling cars
- Read and follow switching instructions indicating track assignments and cars to be switched
- Communicate frequently with production units to manage the tank farm areas. Responsible for transporting finished products from the intermediate storage location to final storage locations via pipeline.
- Takes prescribed samples of materials handled, records information about materials transferred, and transports specimens to the laboratory.
- Routinely travels to the river dock area to monitor and flush river intake pumps.
- Informs supervision and other operating personnel of malfunctioning equipment or other problems.
- Perform minor maintenance activities as set forth by management.
- Responsible for inventory/cycle counting activities in the work area at the end of each month. Must complete daily inventory of railcars on site each morning.
- Keeps work area in clean, safe, and orderly condition.
- All other duties as assigned
Physical & Environmental Exposure:
Chemical Loader will be exposed to the following:
- Heights; working from the top of railcars and/or loading platform
- Confined Spaces
- Severe weather (hot or cold)
- Climbing (ladders & stairs), stooping, crawling, kneeling, bending
- Standing, Walking
- Occasionally lifting 40 pounds maximum; frequently 10-25 pounds
- Loud noises (hearing conservation areas are clearly marked)
