About the Role
The Ocean Export Manager will lead a compact but highly experienced team comprising two on-site export specialists and an offshore support agent. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on leadership—balancing team development, process optimisation, customer service, and tactical problem-solving. You will also serve as the main escalation point for complex shipments and key account issues, while partnering with the Sales Team to ensure operational success.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and oversee all operational functions within the ocean export department, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency.
- Mentor, coach, and develop team members to maximise their performance and growth.
- Allocate workloads, monitor productivity, and ensure deadlines and service standards are consistently met.
- Act as the primary point of escalation for service issues, challenging shipments, and key accounts.
- Provide operational support to the Sales Team to enhance customer experience and retention.
- Resolve service failures promptly and implement preventative measures to avoid repeat issues.
- Maintain strong industry knowledge, including regulations, documentation, carriers, NVOCCs, and overseas partners.
- Negotiate and review vendor rates and contracts with a focus on cost control and service continuity.
- Identify operational inefficiencies and implement corrective actions.
- Oversee financial aspects such as billing accuracy, revenue/cost review, and departmental reporting to senior leadership.
Required Experience
- 5 years of ocean export or freight forwarding experience.
- At least 2 years in a supervisory, management, or team-lead role.
- Strong command of ocean export documentation, regulatory requirements, and workflow.
- Demonstrated leadership, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in CargoWise and Microsoft Office tools.
