(Scroll down to the “Caring for You” section) POSITION SUMMARY: Lift Mechanics at Arapahoe Basin are responsible for the maintenance of all aerial tramways and surface lift equipment during our winter and summer seasons. Responsibilities include being on site to assist other staff members with any lift issues as they arise as well as performing regularly scheduled maintenance and reporting on all aerial tramways and surface lifts in accordance with state and federal guidelines. WAGE: The base hourly pay range below represents the low and high ends of Arapahoe Basin’s hourly pay range for this position. Actual pay will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors, including but not limited to experience, education, training, location, merit system, quantity or quality of production, and responsibilities. The range listed is just one component of Arapahoe Basin’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include many region-specific benefits. Lift Mechanics are eligible for a staging program that relates to applicable pay based on experience. See below for specific details. Hourly pay range: $21.50 - $25.75/ hour ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Carry out all work duties in accordance with ANSI B-77, and CPTSB regulations Pass a CPTSB Section 23 test Be familiar with “OSHA” Codes and protocols and “Lock-Out Tag Out” procedures Be familiar with “Confined Space” procedures to ensure a safe working environment at all times Be familiar with “Qualified Climber” and “Fall Protection” procedures and “Basic Safe Rigging Practices” and procedures Be familiar with “Lift Access Work Order System” Be familiar with “Maintenance Manuals” for each lift Be familiar with “Blue Prints” and how to read them Perform weekly and monthly inspections of lift machinery Assist with return and drive bullwheel hub purging; assist with bullwheel liner replacement Maintain and repair lift equipment; ensure efficient and safe operation of all lifts Perform daily start-up procedures; complete daily operation log for all lifts Perform daily AM/PM inspections on all lifts Check for abnormal sounds, appropriate fluid levels, other mechanical abnormalities throughout the course of daily work assignments Assist with weekly and monthly inspections of lift machinery Perform annually scheduled maintenance on all lifts as directed Be able to operate all A-Basin lifts on auxiliary power without assistance Operate (drive) all A-Basin lifts safely for line work Assist the work chair captain while performing line work Assist with grip and carrier inspection, general inspections, and Non-Destructive Testing Assist with haul rope inspection and lubrication Inspect and rebuild sheaves; replace bearings and liners Collaborate with the Lift Maintenance team and other A-Basin operations by assisting with ongoing training and supporting seasonal lift operators Safely operate a snowmobile, UTV, and other heavy machinery Assist Lift Mechanics with grip, chair, haul rope, carpet, and auxiliary maintenance as well as any electrical needs Follow all department sustainability guidelines as expected Other duties as assigned REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 1 year of previous lift operations or lift maintenance experience – required Ability and knowledge to operate basic hand and power tools Ability to identify all lift components and understand their purpose Knowledge of proper rigging procedures Basic math skills to apply the concepts of algebra and geometry to lift maintenance-related duties Must provide own ski equipment Must be available weekends and some holidays Must pass a motor vehicle record background check EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS High school diploma or equivalent Must pass certified climber training PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to withstand high-altitude conditions at all times Ability to use full range of body motion and lift up to 75 lbs. Able to stand, walk, kneel, squat, and crawl throughout a 10-hour shift Ability to climb ladders and lift a significant portion of own body weight Ability to ski at an intermediate or expert level Ability to perform all job duties at heights with the use of fall protection To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily- reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. WORKING CONDITIONS: This position will work outdoors in a high-alpine environment in all types of weather conditions. Most work is performed around loud machinery sometimes at heights and sometimes in cramped spaces such as a crawl space or machine room. ______________________________________________________________________ Lift Mechanic Staging Program Lift Mechanics at A-Basin are eligible for a staging program that starts when hired and continues into employment. Lift Mechanic I: Pay Range: $21.50 - $25.75/hr See requirements above Lift Mechanic II: Pay Range: $22.75 – $30.75/hr Ability to fulfill all Lift Mechanic I requirements in addition to the following: Possess an understanding of the Lift Access Work Order System Demonstrate the ability to make and fill out both unscheduled and scheduled 250, 500, 750, etc. Hour Work Orders Demonstrate the knowledge and skills to disassemble and reassemble and to test the following components of a chair lift, carpet, or tow: Tension System Brake Systems Grips, Fixed/Detachable Sheave/Assembly Haul Rope Auxiliary Engine/Torque Converters Identify and explain the functions of all lift components: Tension System Brake Systems Grips, Fixed/Detachable Sheave / Assembly Haul Rope Auxiliary Engine/Torque Converters Cable Tack(s) Guide Sheave Encoders Bullwheel Encoders Electric Motor Motor Tack versus Armature Feed Back Lift Mechanic III: Pay Range: $24.25 – $35.25/hr Ability to fulfill all Lift Mechanic II requirements in addition to the following: Develop a rigging plan for haul rope splice/repair Develop a rigging plan for bullwheel bearing replacement Be able to captain the work chair for lift line-related maintenance Has knowledge to read and understand electrical schematics Demonstrate basic electrical trouble shooting knowledge and skills Identify why a lift is down (i.e., blown fuses, power outage, safety gate is triggered or malfunctioning, stop button is triggered or malfunctioning) Hold current Level 2 NDT certification 3 years of previous lift maintenance experience – required Be familiar with Tramway Codes – Chapter 23 and pass Chapter 23 test Lift Mechanic IV: Pay Range: $25.75 – $38.75/hr Ability to fulfill all Lift Mechanic III requirements in addition to the following: Coordinate and lead lower-level lift mechanics through all regularly scheduled and unscheduled maintenance projects Demonstrate the electrical knowledge, skills, and ability to identify and explain the functions of all components the Allen Bradley, ABB, Yaskawa Drive, LPOA Light Drive Demonstrate knowledge and skills in working with the following mechanical components of a chair lifts (Leitner-Poma, LPOA GMM Tele-Cord, Magic Carpet Ski Lifts): Tension and Counter Weight Systems Inspection and repair of Bullwheel liners Inspection of the Haul Ropes Inspection and testing of all brake components Setting the correct stopping distance for a given lift as per ANSI B-77 STOPPING DISTANCES Performance of brake tests on all A-Basin lifts Demonstrate the knowledge and ability to read any blue print of any lift; identify and explain the function of every component Demonstrate the knowledge skill and ability to troubleshoot any form of electrical problem on any lift 5 years of previous lift maintenance experience – required Demonstrate the knowledge, skill, and ability to perform heavy rigging including: Gear Box Drive Bullwheel bearing replacement Return Bullwheel bearing replacement Removal and instillation on an electric motor Haul rope splice Sheave assembly removal, rebuild, and reinstallation This job description is not an exhaustive list of all functions and responsibilities that an employee may be required to perform in this position.
