Position Overview
We are looking for an experienced Interior Systems Engineer (DRE) to lead the design, development, and integration of interior accessory systems across the full vehicle lifecycle. This role is responsible for delivering high-quality, customer-facing components such as storage systems, trim parts, and speaker mounts, ensuring performance, quality, and regulatory compliance.
You will act as a key interface between engineering, design, manufacturing, validation, and suppliers, driving system integration, issue resolution, and program execution in a fast-paced development environment.
Key Responsibilities
System Integration & Engineering Ownership
- Lead end-to-end development of interior accessory systems (storage bins, trim covers, speaker mounts, etc.)
- Ensure system-level functionality, packaging feasibility, and interface alignment
- Define and manage interfaces with cockpit, console, body, electrical, and safety systems
- Drive technical decisions and optimize design solutions
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Act as the primary interface across design, engineering, manufacturing, safety, and validation teams
- Collaborate with Studio, Body, NVH, Vehicle Dynamics, and Validation teams
- Lead technical design reviews and drive issue resolution
Supplier & Component Development
- Partner with suppliers to ensure design feasibility, quality, and on-time delivery
- Resolve design, packaging, and fitment issues
- Manage component release, PPAP, and engineering change processes
- Ensure proper integration of hardware and attachment systems
Validation & Testing
- Define validation requirements and ensure compliance with performance and regulatory standards (e.g., FMVSS)
- Review and support DV/PV testing activities and results
- Ensure robustness and reliability of components
Program Execution & Launch
- Support prototype builds and vehicle integration
- Track milestones, risks, and deliverables
- Ensure readiness for production launch
- Maintain documentation and manage changes via PLM systems
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Automotive Engineering, or related field (Master’s preferred)
- 5 years of experience in automotive interior systems or accessories engineering
- Strong experience in system integration and component development
- Knowledge of plastic part design and injection molding
- Experience with validation/testing processes (DV/PV)
- Ability to read and work with CAD data (CATIA V5 preferred)
- Experience with PLM systems and engineering change management
- Understanding of regulatory standards (FMVSS, NHTSA)
- Strong cross-functional communication and coordination skills
Preferred
- Experience across multiple interior systems (trim, storage, speaker integration, etc.)
- Hands-on CATIA V5 modeling
- Experience in startup or new vehicle programs
- Familiarity with APQP process
