What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Financial Accountant position at ALTAMONT SCHOOL?
The Altamont School seeks an experienced Senior Financial Accountant to join their accounting team. The Senior Financial Accountant is responsible for preparing financial reports, performing account reconciliations, maintaining the general ledger, preparing month-end close procedures, assisting with audit preparations and processing payroll. This position will combine excellent analytical skills with a thorough knowledge of accounting principles to analyze financial reports and forecasts.
Essential Functions
- Manages and assists with daily accounting processes, including cash receiving/depositing, general ledger, and accounts payable, in accordance with generally accepted accounting procedures.
- Prepares and/or assists in preparation of timely and complete financial statements and reports.
- Creates and ensures accuracy of the Student Online Enrollment Contract through Blackbaud
- Manages and reconciles billing through FACTS Management Company for student tuition, scholarships, and other miscellaneous billings and provides information to parents regarding individual accounts, financial obligations to the school, financial policies, tuition refund and delinquent accounts.
- Prepare monthly analysis of delinquent accounts receivable and reports to the CFO.
- Takes a role in the annual audit by providing reconciliations, reports and other assistance as needed.
- Works with accounting firm that prepares the annual 990 and provides necessary information for completion.
- Coordinate with the Advancement Office to ensure gifts are posted correctly.
- Provide support and/or training to the Business Office Associate and backs this position up as needed.
- Prepare, post, and reconcile all investment activity and related accounting entries. Ensure transfers to and from US Trust separate accounts are timely.
- Coordinates with the CFO for fixed asset additions, disposals, and depreciation in Blackbaud.
- Monitor departmental budgets and amounts held on behalf of others.
- Enter data into NAIS, NBOA and other surveys as identified prior to deadlines.
- Ensures accurate and timely distribution of 1099s to required recipients and state and federal agencies.
- Remit all retirement contributions timely on a bi-weekly and monthly basis.
- Process payroll on a monthly and bi-weekly basis.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance required.
- 4 years of accounting experience.
- Strong financial analysis skills.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly with Excel.
- Experience with Blackbaud software, preferred.
- Nonprofit experience preferred.
