What are the responsibilities and job description for the AP Modern World History Teacher (Tenth Grade) position at ALTAMONT SCHOOL?
Summary
The Altamont School seeks an experienced history teacher whose primary teaching assignment will be AP Modern World History (tenth grade). In addition, the preferred candidate will also teach AP Economics (twelfth grade). We are interested in candidates who possess a passion for teaching, a firm understanding of the course subject matter, and a commitment to using varied and dynamic teaching methods. The candidate should also be willing to contribute to student life at Altamont by playing a leadership role in other school organizations.
The teacher will create and maintain a strong program and a positive learning environment by encouraging students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to obtain a good foundation for growth and development; establishing an effective rapport with students and parents; and assisting students in developing positive feelings/feedback/critiques toward themselves and others. We want supportive faculty who are lifelong learners and who model that for our students. Our educators are expected to engage in on-going professional development, be open to interdisciplinary opportunities, and to actively help further our school's strategic initiatives of community and inclusion.
Essential Functions
- Teach the tenth-grade course AP Modern World History and one twelfth-grade elective, with AP Economics being preferred.
- Deliver lesson plans using a variety of instructional methods that facilitate active learning with clear learning and teaching objectives.
- Ensure objectives are met through effective teaching, high expectations, and sound learning in an inclusive, engaging classroom environment.
- Demonstrate proficient use of the various technology tools that support our curriculum.
- Monitor, document, and assess student progress, maintaining close communication with parents and appropriate school personnel.
- Provide students with feedback, critiques, encouragement, and support.
- Exhibit strong classroom management skills.
- Improve teaching performance through continued professional development.
- Support the mission, policies, and practices of The Altamont School.
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in education, history, or a related field;
- Experience teaching high-school students in history or a related field in the humanities;
- Flexibility, organization, decision making and problem-solving skills;
- Strong communication (verbal and written), public relations, and interpersonal skills;
- Ability to meet deadlines, work on multiple projects, and coordinate the work of students;
- Knowledge of effective classroom management strategies;
- Experience using a variety of technology tools in the educational setting.
