What are the responsibilities and job description for the Organics Department Supervisor position at ALS USA Environmental?
The primary purpose of this position is to oversee the completion, review, and approval of assigned analyses and associated quality control requirements of the organics department at the environmental laboratory. This position is expected to provide analytical support as needed in the various instrument areas of the organics departments.
- Direct and coordinate the activities of the department and personnel to successfully meet laboratory and client turnaround time requirements;
- Develop and implement new methods and technologies when mandated by changes in regulations or client needs;
- Complete performance evaluations and establish individual goals for department personnel on an annual basis;
- Prepare and analyze samples for LC and LC/MS;
- Responsible for meeting calibration and QA requirements;
- Document activities and report results in a concise and accurate manner using instrument software and the LIMS;
- Coordinate with other analysts;
- Perform routine instrument maintenance procedures;
- Peer review HPLC and LC/MS data;
- Report data and review reported results;
- Other duties as assigned.
About you:
- Possess a general knowledge of chemistry fundamentals and the ability to perform concentration and solution calculations; ability to understand terminology and principals in order to comply with analytical methods;
- Possess operational knowledge of LC/MS equipment, able to perform maintenance on equipment, and trouble shoot issues.
- Possess strong computer skills with knowledge in Excel and Microsoft Word; experience with or ability to learn industry specific software such as our laboratory information management system.
- Organized, detail oriented, and possess excellent problem solving capabilities; be able to work independently of supervision and work well with other analysts on the team;
- Ability to work overtime when necessary to meet TAT.
Required Qualifications:
- BS in Chemistry or related field
- 3-4 years with liquid chromatography instrumental experience
Physical Demands:
- Able to speak and hear clearly while communicating with co-workers and managers;
- Dexterity in hands and fingers to operate equipment and handle glassware;
- Must have average vision and able to see to read reports and operate equipment;
- Hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone;

Pay: $60,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
