Position Overview
We are looking for an experienced and detail-oriented Low Voltage Estimator to join our team full-time at our Fort Lauderdale office. This is an in-office position that plays a critical role in the growth of our company. The ideal candidate is highly organized, technically knowledgeable in low-voltage systems, and comfortable both at a desk reviewing plans and out in the field visiting job sites.
You will be responsible for reviewing project blueprints and specifications, preparing accurate and competitive bids, and working closely with our operations and project management teams to ensure proposals reflect the full scope of work.
Key Responsibilities
- Review architectural, electrical, and low-voltage plans and specifications to develop accurate project estimates
- Prepare detailed, itemized proposals for fire alarm, access control, CCTV, structured cabling, and other low-voltage systems
- Perform material and labor takeoffs from blueprints and project documents
- Conduct site visits as needed to assess project scope, conditions, and installation requirements
- Coordinate with vendors and suppliers to obtain current material pricing and lead times
- Collaborate with project managers, technicians, and leadership to ensure estimates reflect real-world costs and timelines
- Track and follow up on submitted bids and proposals
- Maintain organized records of all estimates, proposals, and project documentation
- Stay current on industry pricing, code requirements, and new technology
- Identify value engineering opportunities to provide competitive yet profitable bids
Requirements
Experience & Knowledge:
- Minimum 3–5 years of estimating experience in low-voltage, fire alarm, security, or electrical systems
- Strong understanding of low-voltage systems including fire alarms, access control, CCTV, and structured cabling
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and construction documents
- Familiarity with NFPA 72, NEC, and other relevant codes and standards
- Experience with estimating software (Bluebeam, PlanSwift, or similar) preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook)
Skills & Attributes:
- Strong mathematical and analytical skills
- Excellent attention to detail — accuracy is everything in this role
- Ability to manage multiple bids simultaneously and meet deadlines
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision
- Professional demeanor when interacting with clients, GCs, and vendors
- Valid Florida driver's license and reliable transportation for site visits
Nice to Have:
- NICET certification or low-voltage licensing
- Experience in the South Florida construction market
- Existing relationships with local GCs, developers, or property managers
