What are the responsibilities and job description for the Litigation Associate position at Alpha Law?
Firm Overview:
We are a specialized boutique law firm in New York City. We offer a fast-paced, high-stakes environment where associates gain immediate "first-chair" experience and direct mentorship from partners.
Key Responsibilities:
- Independently manage a diverse portfolio of litigation matters from inception through resolution, including case assessment, pleadings, and discovery.
- Draft and review substantive legal documents: complaints, answers, motions to dismiss, summary judgment motions, and appellate briefs.
- Lead the discovery phase by drafting interrogatories, requests for production, and managing electronic discovery (e-discovery) workflows.
- Conduct and defend depositions of parties and expert witnesses. Appear in New York State and Federal courts for hearings, status conferences, and oral arguments.
- Prepare for and participate in trials, mediations, and arbitrations. Draft pre-trial memos, jury instructions, and motions.
- Act as the primary point of contact for clients, providing regular case updates, strategic risk assessments, and professional legal counsel.
Required Qualifications:
- J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school.
- Active member in good standing of the New York State Bar (New Jersey or Federal Court admissions are a plus).
- 2–3 years of experience in commercial or civil litigation.
- Expertise in Westlaw/LexisNexis and advanced legal research (p. 1).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) for professional document production.
- Bilingualism (English/Mandarin) is a plus.
Pay: $90,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
