Enrichment Technician

JOB SUMMARY:

Enrichment Technicians maintain, design, prepare and provide edible and non-edible environmental enrichment to non-human primates that support species-typical behaviors. They are responsible for enhancing the non-human primates psychological health through enrichment. The enrichment team collaborates with the behavioral sciences team to support ongoing behavioral management initiatives.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Enrichment Technician must be able to perform the following tasks with minimum supervision:

· Monitor for diseased or injured animals and immediately report to the veterinary team.

· Keep accurate/detailed records of tasks performed.

· Follow Standard Operating Procedures.

· Prepare, clean and distribute enrichment items.

· Build/construct non-edible enrichment devices.

· Create complex edible enrichment items.

· Perform enclosure restorations and repairs, as needed.

· Assist the behavioral team, as needed.

· Maintain clean working spaces.

· Operate power tools.

· Receive weekly enrichment food orders and communicate when inventory changes are needed.

· Must be available to work weekends and holidays when needed.

· Must be team oriented, and willing to work across institutional divisions in a professional and courteous manner

· Any other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

· Good organizational skills

· Basic verbal, written, and math skills

· Ability to work in a team environment

· Ability to work unsupervised

EDUCATION:

High School diploma/GED

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

South Carolina Driver’s License or equivalent

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Must be able to read and write, and interpret documents including task descriptions, standard operating procedures, and other instructions.

REASONING ABILITY:

Able to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Additionally, the employee must be able to distinguish colors.

The noise level is usually moderate.
