Variable Typical shift start times are between 6:00 AM and 9:00 AM.
Variable call weekend rotation dependent on the number of surgical techs on staff.

Position Objective
The Surgical Technologist is a member of the operating room. The position assists surgeons and other surgical staff during the surgical procedure. The Technologist works under the supervision of a surgeon, registered nurse, or other surgical personnel and maintains constant vigilance for the maintenance of the sterile field to maximize patient safety. The position ensures that the operating room environment is safe and needed equipment is available. The Surgical Technologist assists in the sterile processing department by performing sterilizing, assembly and storage of medical supplies and surgical equipment.
Essential Responsibilities
Pre-Procedure
- Help setup the operating room by ensuring the room is clean, wiped down, and all the equipment/instruments are available and in working order
- Stock surgical supplies
- Wash and sterilize all equipment by using germicides and sterilizers
- Account for needles, suture, sponges, and instruments
- Assist the Registered Nurse
During Procedure
- Anticipate the surgeons needs
- Ensure that there is a sterile field during all surgical procedures
- Observe and report a break in sterile techniques
- Operate and assemble lights, suction machines and other types of diagnostic equipment
- Count sponges, needles, and other supplies before and after all operations
Post-Procedure
- Clean and restock the operating room
- Reset up room with equipment and supplies for the next procedure
- Assist the Registered Nurse

- Demonstrate the ability to use relevant equipment

Required Qualifications
- Surgical Technologist Certification
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a similar role
- Associate degree in the field of surgical technology
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Mentor and orient new staff members
- May supervise Student Scrub Technicians
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Strong knowledge of current operating room techniques, procedures, instruments, and supplies
