Pre-K Assistant Teacher (Full-Time)
AHELC is seeking a caring, dependable, and enthusiastic Pre-K Assistant Teacher to join our team! If you enjoy helping young children learn through play, building positive relationships, and working in a collaborative classroom environment, we'd love to hear from you.
As a Pre-K Assistant Teacher, you will work alongside the Lead Teacher to provide a safe, nurturing, and engaging classroom where children are prepared for kindergarten through hands-on learning, exploration, and meaningful interactions.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Lead Teacher in implementing developmentally appropriate lesson plans and daily activities aligned with the West Virginia Pre-K curriculum.
- Foster children's social, emotional, cognitive, language, and physical development.
- Maintain a safe, clean, organized, and welcoming classroom environment.
- Supervise children at all times while ensuring active engagement and safety.
- Support children with daily routines, including meals, toileting, handwashing, rest time, and transitions.
- Use positive guidance and behavior management techniques to encourage appropriate behavior and independence.
- Build positive relationships with children, families, and coworkers.
- Assist with classroom documentation, assessments, and parent communication as needed.
- Follow all center policies, procedures, and West Virginia child care licensing regulations.
- Work collaboratively with the teaching team to create a positive and supportive learning environment.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Must hold or be willing to obtain a West Virginia Early Childhood Classroom Assistant Teacher (ECCAT) authorization.
- Previous experience working with preschool-aged children is preferred but not required.
- Must successfully pass state and federal criminal background checks and Child Protective Services (CPS) background checks.
- Must provide professional references.
- Must obtain and maintain CPR and First Aid Certification.
- Must complete all required West Virginia child care orientation training and annual WV STARS professional development.
- Must complete all required health screenings and employment paperwork in accordance with West Virginia child care licensing.
- Strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.
- Reliable, patient, professional, and passionate about early childhood education.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit, kneel, bend, and actively engage with children on the floor throughout the day.
- Ability to lift and assist children weighing up to 40 pounds.
- Ability to participate in indoor and outdoor activities, including gross motor play.
- Ability to respond quickly in emergency situations while maintaining active supervision.
