Primary Responsibilities
Inspection Duties:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date acceptance/rejection records and certification systems per applicable specifications.
- Inspect and calibrate parts, tools, and instruments; determine acceptance or rejection, and document findings.
- Perform semi-complex inspection of components, assemblies, and shelf-life items using a wide variety of measuring instruments.
- Conduct inspections on assembled products to verify part finish and overall quality.
- Identify and send product samples for periodic outside laboratory testing.
- Adapt and develop inspection set-ups for sample parts, forgings, and castings. Verify tool and jig layouts.
- Perform first article, envelope inspections, source inspections, and semi-complex surface plate set-ups.
- Interpret specifications, charts, drawings, blueprints, schematics, route sheets, travelers, quality directives, engineering specifications, and military standards to ensure compliance.
- Use shop mathematics, including trigonometry, to verify dimensions, tolerances, and conversions.
- Layout and measure hole locations and centerlines on castings, forgings, and machined parts.
- Investigate causes of customer return failures; assist with inspections in assembly, test, and shipping departments.
- Support customer/government source inspections as needed.
- Clearly communicate internal audit procedures during audits.
- Verify calibration of instruments and equipment to maintain compliance and accuracy.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- 3–5 years of related inspection or calibration experience, or demonstrated ability to perform described responsibilities.
- Must be able to pass a required vision exam.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Ability to read and follow written instructions, procedures, drawings, and specifications.
- Proficient in mathematics: add, subtract, multiply, divide, fractions, decimals, ratios, percentages, and graph interpretation.
- Knowledge of shop mathematics, including trigonometry.
- Preferred: Experience in CMM operations and working knowledge of dimensioning/tolerancing (ANSI Y14.5).
- Knowledge of military standards and specifications required.
- Proficient in blueprint reading and interpretation of customer specifications.
