Junior Steel Estimator - Structural Steel and Miscellaneous Metals - Base Salary to 90k/year - Houston, TX
- Our client is a technology-driven manufacturing organization focused on improving efficiency, transparency, and quality throughout the manufacturing and construction supply chain. They are seeking a Junior Steel Estimator to join their Engineering team and support estimating activities related to structural steel, miscellaneous metals, and joist and deck projects.
- This role is ideal for an individual with foundational experience in structural steel estimating, quantity takeoffs, blueprint review, and construction cost analysis who is looking to grow within a collaborative engineering environment.
Responsibilities:
- Perform detailed digital quantity takeoffs for structural steel components including beams, columns, trusses, and miscellaneous metals such as stairs, railings, ladders, and platforms.
- Review architectural drawings, structural drawings, specifications, addenda, and bid documents to identify project scope requirements.
- Assist with preparing project estimates by analyzing labor, material, equipment, fabrication, and subcontractor costs.
- Coordinate with material suppliers and subcontractors to obtain pricing, lead times, and availability information.
- Compile and organize bid packages to support accurate project pricing and proposal development.
- Maintain and update estimating databases, unit pricing information, and historical cost records.
- Conduct occasional site visits to verify dimensions, review field conditions, and support estimate development.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on estimating accuracy, workflow optimization, and process efficiency.
- Collaborate with engineering, operations, and estimating teams throughout the bidding process.
Qualifications:
- Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent field experience.
- Experience performing quantity takeoffs for structural steel, miscellaneous metals, joists, decking, or related construction scopes.
- Familiarity with takeoff software such as Bluebeam Revu.
- Basic understanding of AISC standards, structural steel fabrication, and common metal fabrication processes.
- Strong mathematical aptitude, including the ability to calculate material weights, surface areas, and volumes.
- Ability to review construction drawings and identify scope requirements accurately.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to identify omissions, discrepancies, and hidden scope items within complex drawing packages.
