About Us

Allied Electric Sign & Awning Co. exists to help businesses show their brilliance to the world. With over 29 years of experience in sign and awning design, fabrication, installation, and service, we are recognized as one of the safest and most reputable employers in the industry. We are growing and looking for high-quality, motivated individuals to join our team.

Position Overview

The Purchasing Manager is responsible for ensuring all materials required for production, fabrication, installation, and shipping are ordered accurately, cost-effectively, and on time. This role requires a proactive leader who is organized, cost-conscious, and dedicated to supporting a streamlined manufacturing process. The Purchasing Manager plays a critical role in ensuring that production is never delayed due to material shortages and that all materials are properly organized, stored, received, and distributed.

Key Competencies

To be successful in this role, you should demonstrate:

  • Cost consciousness: Ability to find ways to reduce material spending and negotiate favorable pricing.
  • Accuracy: Consistently ordering correct materials and ensuring exact quantities and specifications.
  • Timeliness: Ensuring materials are never the bottleneck in production.
  • Organization: Maintaining an orderly system for ordering, receiving, storing, and tracking materials.
  • Creativity: Exploring alternative vendors, solutions, and sourcing approaches.
  • Scalability mindset: Helping streamline supply chain processes using systems and technology.
  • Ownership: Taking full responsibility for ensuring all materials are ordered; proactively seeking needed information rather than relying on others to initiate orders.
  • Positive attitude & alignment with company values: Serving as an optimistic contributor to growth, solutions, and teamwork.

Primary Responsibilities

Purchasing & Procurement

  • Accurately and proactively order all materials required for production.
  • Ensure production always has materials on time—material delays should never be the bottleneck.
  • Seek out necessary information to complete orders; lack of communication from others is not an acceptable reason for missed ordering.
  • Conduct ongoing cost reduction efforts, including minimizing rush-order costs and correcting ordering errors.
  • Obtain 2–3 competitive quotes for purchases over $500.
  • Renegotiate pricing with primary vendors every 6 months to ensure competitive costs.
  • Distinguish between stock materials and special-order materials; create systems to prevent running out of stock items.
  • Strategically manage procurement rather than simply processing orders—evaluate options and identify best-value solutions.

Vendor Management

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with primary, secondary, and tertiary vendors.
  • Challenge existing vendors on pricing and terms to ensure cost savings.
  • Conduct periodic strategic negotiations with top vendors to secure the best pricing and product specifications.

Receiving & Inventory Organization

  • Oversee the receiving of all materials, ensuring correct quantities, quality, and condition.
  • Organize and store all materials properly—materials should never be left outside in the elements.
  • Ensure materials are given to the correct departments or stored in the proper locations.
  • Maintain material organization systems for easy tracking, retrieval, and job readiness.

Cross-Department Collaboration

  • Coordinate with fabrication, routing, outsourcing, and installation teams to ensure all required materials are prepared, organized, and available.
  • Support installation teams by verifying materials received match job requirements.
  • Assist with the execution of material kitting, palletization, and job-ready organization.

Shipping & Crating

  • Coordinate outgoing shipments to ensure accuracy, completeness, and proper packaging.
  • Work with shipping carriers to balance cost, lead time, and reliability.
  • Ensure crates and packages protect products while minimizing unnecessary packaging costs.
  • Prevent missed or forgotten items that result in additional shipping expenses.

Inventory Control & Tracking

  • Assist in implementing inventory control measures to reduce theft, loss, and waste.
  • Support the adoption and use of material tracking technologies and processes.
  • Monitor material spending as a percentage of revenue and contribute to improvement initiatives.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Experience as a Purchasing Manager – Required
  • Experience with MRP systems – Required
  • Experience in the sign industry – Preferred
  • Strong negotiation, communication, and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple vendors, deadlines, and internal requests
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
  • This Job Is Open To Applicants who do not have a college diploma
