Brief Description
Under the direction of the Manager of Pharmacy Services, the Pharmacist performs all duties of a Staff Pharmacist in compliance with all applicable hospital, LTC facility and pharmacy policies and procedures, regulations and standards. This includes involvement with multiple drug distribution functions (inclusive of computerized order entry and/or prospective review and verification of physicians’ orders, IV admixture preparation, etc); defined clinical/cognitive activities to optimize therapeutic outcomes under the direction of the Medication Management Committee (which includes active communication with physicians, nurses and other healthcare staff about the need to clarify and/or change or order along with documentation of intervention outcomes); and “supervisory” functions which provide professional oversight and direction of technicians drug preparation and distribution activates to assure safe and expedient provision of pharmaceutical care.
It is the expectation of Allied Services that all assessment, treatment and care or related tasks are performed in consideration of the ages and mental status of the patients and residents served. The tasks listed in this job description should be performed in a manner indicative of the employee’s ability to secure and interpret information pertinent to the patient and resident needs. The Pharmacist should have knowledge of human development and an understanding of the range of treatment needed by these patients and residents.
The Pharmacist must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to the age of the patients served within the Allied Services – pediatric through geriatric. The Pharmacist must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span; possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status; interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to their age-specific needs; and to provide the care needed as described in the Pharmacy Services policies and procedures.
Type of supervision exercised: full. Jobs reporting to the position: Technicians, support staff and student interns in the absence of the Manager of Pharmacy Services.
EDUCATION:
Graduate of an accredited College of Pharmacy with a degree in Pharmacy required.
Doctorate of Pharmacy Degree preferred.
WORK EXPERIENCE:
One Or Two Years Of Work Experience Preferred.
SPECIAL EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a current license as a Registered Pharmacist in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania required.
Knowledge of pharmacy law, numerical ability, thorough knowledge of Pharmacology, aseptic technique, accurate analysis and evaluation of orders.
Excellent Organizational, Administrative, Leadership, And Analytical Skills Required.
Independent thinking/sound judgment, clinical expertise, teach/instruct, manual and finger dexterity.
Ability to interact and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with all levels of management, staff and the public required.
Valid PA driver’s license required.
