Job Summary:
The Electrical Estimator is responsible for producing project-specific construction estimates based on plans and specifications for all phases of the assigned estimate. This role involves overseeing the request for bid (R.F.Q.) from bid document review, including schedules and specifications, and managing all facets of the estimating process on a daily basis.
Key Responsibilities:
Estimate Development:
- Develop accurate and timely electrical construction estimates for competitive bids and proposals for general contractors, owners, developers, and end-users.
- Analyze and interpret detailed drawings and specifications to create accurate estimates.
- Perform budget pricing from schematic drawings and narratives.
- Draft scope letters, proposals, and vendor solicitations.
- Request pricing for all materials and subcontractors required for electrical installation.
- Reprice projects and update proposals as changes occur throughout the bid lifecycle.
- Submit and track Requests for Information (RFI’s) and responses.
Program Development and Maintenance:
- Support the department leader with ongoing development and maintenance of estimating programs and databases.
- Work under deadline pressures in an efficient and organized manner.
Cost Evaluation:
- Evaluate labor and material costs to determine whether it is more feasible to construct electrical components in-house or subcontract the work.
- Ensure all facets of the estimate align with project requirements and client needs.
Additional Duties:
- Perform any other tasks as assigned by management.
Job Requirements
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Electrical estimating experience on commercial and industrial projects is highly preferred.
- Electrical field construction experience highly preferred.
Skills:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and major computerized estimating programs (Accubid preferred).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple pricing efforts simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
- Team player with a self-motivated attitude, capable of working well with supervisors and peers.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and follow projects through to completion.
Knowledge:
- Knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and basic electrical engineering calculations.
- Strong understanding of the construction industry, estimating processes, and materials.
